Djenepo goes into the books for a blatant foul on Fred.

Upon review, the deflected goal is to go down as a Fred own goal.

The hosts lead after a deflected strike separates the two teams. Up until the goal United looked the more dangerous side. A 1-0 lead certainly won't ease the nerves of Southampton fans given the club's track record at slipping from winning positions..

What a run from Livramento. The new signing charges up the pitch, skipping past Fred and Wan-Bissaka with real pace and determination. He sends a ball in but it fails to reach Armstrong.

The goal has turned the tide in this game which was arguably scored against the run of play. Southampton are still pushing for a second, Djenepo looking particularly dangerous down the left flank.

Fernandes is evidently fuming about Stephen's challenge that lead to the goal. VAR isn't being contested, from the replay it looks like a heavy challenge but nothing out of the ordinary.

GOAL ADAMS! Great move from Southampton. Fernandes loses possession following a hefty barge from Stephens. Stephens cuts the ball towards Djenepo, who provides a sublime first time assist to Adams. Adams takes the ball well and his shot deflects off of the leg of Fred and into the bottom right corner.

Better from Southampton. Djenepo bursts down the wing and sets Armstrong up just outside of the box. Armstrong sends a curling shot towards goal, but the ball curls over the top right corner.

Fernandes gives away a free kick after he commits a late challenge on Perraud. Ward-Prowse takes but no real threat amounts.

Fans are booing the referee's decision to stop play following Djenepo's foul on Greenwood. The United youngster is holding his face, and from the replay looks like he was caught by the Southampton winger's elbow. Play resumes, no bookings.

United are looking the far more confident side here so far. Wan-Bissaka is really pushing forward to join Fred, Fernandes and Greenwood in the attack. Southampton holding them off as things stand.

Southampton struggling to muster any real clear cut chances in the final third, Adams and Armstrong are enduring an intense press from the United defence.
