Some of the summer's biggest signings made their mark on a busy day of pre-season action for Premiership sides.
In South Africa, Tottenham Hotspur's £16 million pound man Darren Bent got on the scoresheet twice as Spurs beat the Orlando Pirates 3-0.
A Dimitar Berbatov goal was sandwiched in between Bent's two first-half efforts as Spurs picked up their first piece of silverware this season by winning the "Vodacom Challenge."
West Ham also saw some early potential from a couple of their big signings as Craig Bellamy and Freddie Ljungberg both scored in a 3-1 victory at Southend. Bobby Zamora got the other Hammers goal.
The biggest shock of the day probably came at Ibrox, where goals from goals from Nacho Novo and Filip Sebo, both in the last five minutes, saw Rangers earn 2-0 victory over a leggy looking Chelsea side.
The Blues were not the only Premiership side to struggle against an SPL outfit though, as a stoppage time goal from teenager Ross Campbell earned Hibernian a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.
Barcelona avoided an SPL banana skin though as two goals from Ronaldinho and second half strike from Giovanni Dos Santos helped them beat Hearts in front of a massive crowd of nearly 58,000 people at Murrayfield.
Premiership newcomers Derby Country were humbled though, as they were beaten 2-0 away at League Two side Mansfield, but Birmingham, who also went up last season, looked better against Walsall with goals from Mikael Forsell and Cameron Jerome helping them to a 2-0 win.
Reading also enjoyed a victory as Leroy Lita fired in a hat-trick in the Royals 3-1 victory over Brighton.
A Ricardo Vaz Te strike eight minutes from time was the only goal of the game as Bolton won 1-0 at Tranmere, while Stefano Mauri scored twice as Serie A outfit Lazio enjoyed a 5-2 victory at Championship club Southampton.
Nigerian Julius Aghahowa came off the bench to score two in Wigan's 4-0 win at Halifax. Emile Heskey and Jason Koumas, scoring for the first time for Wigan, were also on target.
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Valencia enjoyed wins in the Emirates Cup (see link under the picture for more).
