Having endured a poor loan period at West Bromwich Albion last season when he made only one appearance before being recalled by Arsenal in January, the young Germany forward has scored six goals in five games during his spell at the Olympic Games.
Gnabry, 21, will face Neymar and Brazil in the final when Germany meet hosts in Sunday's gold medal match after a 2-0 win over Nigeria in the semi-finals.
He has been linked with a move to Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin, but Wenger wants the player to remain at the Emirates.
“I want to keep Serge and to extend his contract,” said Wenger. “We stood by him for a long time.
“He went to West Brom and didn’t get a game, and we had to rebuild his confidence when he came back.
“I allowed him go to Rio without playing for us at all, to get him back to competition and help Germany.
"He has been here for a long time, and it is important for him to stay with us.”
