Olympic Games semi-final, Maracana - Brazil 6 (Neymar 1, pen 90+1; Jesus 26, 35; Marquinhos 51, Vieira 79) Honduras 0

Neymar and Gabriel Jesus each scored twice as Brazil thrashed Honduras 6-0 to reach the final of the Olympic Games football tournament at the Maracana.

The Barcelona superstar opened the scoring after just 15 seconds - the fastest goal in Olympic history - and added a penalty in stoppage time to bookend the rout.

Jesus, who signed for Manchester City this summer, doubled the score after 26 minutes and again just eight minutes later, when he ran onto a superb 30-yard pass from Neymar to lift the ball over the keeper and into the roof of the net.

Marquinhos got a fourth in 51 minutes, which he hammered home from three yards at the second attempt when the ball fell kindly to him at a corner.

Luan got the goal his hard work deserved 12 minutes from time, side-footing the ball home from close in after nice set-up work from Gabriel Barbosa and substitute Felipe Anderson.

Neymar made it six when he calmly slotted home a penalty in the final minute after Luan was upended.

Though the Brazilian national side have three silver Olympic medals and a further two bronze in their extensive trophy cabinet, they have never won gold at the Olympics.

Re-match with Germany

Brazil will face Germany, who beat Nigeria 2-0 in the second semi-final in the Olympic football showpiece on Saturday in what will be an opportunity for revenge following their humiliating 7-1 defeat on home soil at the World Cup in 2014.

The Germans in contrast to the hosts, were less convincing in defeating the 1996 gold medal winners Nigeria.

Lukas Klostermann grabbed an early goal after nine minutes but Nigeria pushed hard for an equaliser and were unlucky not to get it on several occasions.

Nils Petersen wrapped the game up with a second goal one minute from full time.
