Sean McConville late penalty miss crucial as Bury beat Accrington in JPT

Sean McConville missed an injury-time penalty as Bury held on to beat Accrington 2-1 in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy northern section first round.

Bury had raced into a two-goal lead before Stanley came back into it, but there was late heartbreak with McConville blasting over a 92nd-minute spot-kick.
Hallam Hope opened the scoring for the Shakers on 46 minutes when Tom Pope, who had only just come on, set up the opportunity for him to fire the ball beyond Ross Etheridge at the far post.
The League One side doubled their advantage after 70 minutes when Jacob Mellis sent Andrew Tutte racing through and he fired low into the bottom corner of the net .
Stanley threatened a comeback when, with seven minutes to go, former Real Madrid youngster Gerardo Bruna raced into the Shakers area and fired past goalkeeper Rob Lainton.
The hosts were given the perfect opportunity to take the tie to penalties but McConville blasted over from the spot two minutes into stoppage time after he had been fouled in the box.
