Jose Mourinho’s side reportedly tabled a massive bid for Pogba, and reports on Saturday claimed it was the player – not the club – that turned down the €85 million (£62m) bid.
Pogba did not confirm the report directly but said he was happy to stay, while also leaving the door open for a future move.
He told Telefoot:
Why did I stay? Because I had no reason to leave. My departure was never certain. I could happily have remained and indeed that’s what happened. I am at Juve and happy to be here. I don’t know how long I’ll stay ... Right now I am focused only on doing well this year. At the end of the season we’ll see.
OUR VIEW: While Pogba will surely leave at some stage, one should not underestimate the strength of his tied to Juventus. Having failed to break through at Manchester United, he developed spectacularly almost as soon as he landed on Italian soil. Pogba is still just 22, and it is hardly surprising he does not feel an immediate need to plunge back into the Premier League.
