43'

Save! Ronaldo uses his body to shield the ball and then unleashes a venomous shot from an acute angle, forcing Perin into a wonderful one-handed stop.

42'

At last, Genoa are beginning to show their attacking potential as they force a corner.

40'

Romero threads a lovely ball into the path of Favilli of all people and the Genoa forward flashes a shot across the face of goal. Wouldn't have counted, though, as he was in an offside position.

38'

Juventus have been absolutely dominant but they have yet to carve open too many chances. Genoa may have conceded a penalty and had Favilli sent off, but as it stands the visitors still have work to do to make the breakthrough.

Yellow card! The referee produces a booking to Schone for a foul on Rabiot. Some of the official's decisions tonight have been questionable, but that was a definite yellow card.

30'

Flashpoint! Favilli, already on a yellow card, goes in late on De Ligt, who rolls around in distress, but the referee keeps his cards in his pockets. A let off for Genoa, who I must say, are getting their fair share of fortune so far.

27'

Dybala embarks on a run towards the penalty area but he's forced down a cul de sac and Genoa have a goal-kick.

26'

Genoa finally enjoy a spell of possession. The hosts, growing in confidence, knock it wide to Ghiglione. His cross is neither here nor there, however, and Juve have a goal-kick.

24'

Ronaldo lets fly from range once again. This time it's deflected behind for a corner. The delivery rolls kindly into the path of De Ligt, whose shot on the stretched is charged down by Soumaoro for another Juventus corner.

22'

Pjanic plays a glorious pass to Ronaldo on the left, but the Portuguese sees his pass across the face of goal intercepted. There's no way out for Genoa, though.

21'

Genoa are playing incredibly deep, inviting pressure. The opening goal seems inevitable.

20'

Juventus are in total control.

16'

Ronaldo has another attempt and finds the target, but again Perin is behind it. This time the Genoa goalkeeper holds on.

14'

Penalty appeal! De Ligt collapses to the ground as the corner delivery comes in. He was clearly pushed in the back - but the referee says no penalty, even after a VAR check. A mystery.

13'

Ronaldo! The Portuguese creates space for a shot and curls one towards goal, from 25 yards. Perin pushes it behind for a corner. Lovely effort.

11'

Dybala drifts in from the flank and arrows towards goal. He has team mates in support but is always going alone. It's to Juve's detriment, as his shot is blocked. Moments before, Bernadeschi tested Perin with a shot from distance.

  • Andrea Favilli

There were three goals, two red cards and a Cristiano Ronaldo 96th-minute penalty winner the last times the clubs faced off.

2'

It's Italy's oldest club against the country's most successful. Both clubs were promoted together in 2007. They have followed different trajectories, it is fair to say.

KICK-OFF! The action begins!

20:44

Here come the players...

20:42

We are just minutes away from Genoa versus Juventus. It's a massive night at both ends of the Serie A table. A win would stretch the Old Lady's lead at the summit to four points, but Genoa could pull four points clear from the bottom three with a home victory, piling the pressure on Sarri.

20:39

Lazio's, on paper, look a little easier. They host Milan on Saturday, but then they have Lecce (a), Sassuolo (h) and Udinese (a).

20:36

I've just had a quick glance of Juve's upcoming fixtures. They are... tasty, to say the least. A home match with rivals Torino follows on Saturday, followed by a visit to the San Siro to play AC Milan three days later. And then they host free-scoring Atalanta. The Serie A title race is heating up.

20:30

Lazio are on the verge of reducing Juventus' lead to one point. They're beating Torino 2-1 thanks to goals from Ciro Immobile and Marco Parolo. Actually, there's the final whistle. And suddenly this feels like an even bigger match for Juventus now.

20:25

Juventus have just released a statement confirming they have sold striker Stephy Mavididi to HSC Montpellier, while Felix Correira has signed from Manchester City in exchange for Pablo Moreno.

20:20

Teams in full: Genoa XI - Perin, Romero, Soumaoro, Masiello, Ghiglione, Behrami, Cassata, Schone, Sturaro, Favilli, Pinamonti.. subs: Marchetti, Radaelli, Zapata, Barreca, Goldaniga, Lerager, Sanabria, Falque, Biraschi, Jagiello, Pandev, Destro. /// Juventus XI - Szczensy, Cuadrado, De Ligt, Bonucci, Danilo, Bentancur, Pjanic, Rabiot, Bernardeschi, Dybala, Ronaldo.. subs: Buffon, Pinsoglio, Rugani, Wesley, Ramsey, Matuidi, Muratore, Douglas Costa, Higuain, Olivieri.

20:15

Interestingly, Genoa have a number of former Juventus players in their ranks, including Andrea Favilli and Stefano Sturaro, both of whom start tonight. Mattia Perin and Christian Romero are both on loan from the Old Lady, and the latter starts in defence.

20:10

Historically, this is a tough ground for Juve. They have lost three of their last six visits to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Genoa may be a point off the relegation zone, but they usually give the Old Lady a hard time. Sarri needed a 96th minute penalty converted by Ronaldo to win the reverse fixture 2-1 earlier in the season.

20:06

Right, let's start with the visitors. Sarri has again kept faith in his attacking trident, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi leading the line. Miralem Pjanic, who has only gone and signed a deal with Barcelona, features in midfield. Juve are missing several players to injury, including Giorgio Chiellina, but Gonzalo Higuain is now fit enough for the bench.
