Mourinho, sacked by United in December, has been linked with a number of high profile positions including former clubs Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
It has also been reported that Benfica, the club where he started his managerial career, would be interested in giving him a job.
However a report from Sky Sports News says that Mourinho has turned down this opportunity.
This is because he believes it is too early for him to return to Portuguese football and would prefer to manage one of the top European clubs.
Mourinho's time at Benfica in 2000 only lasted nine matches due to a dispute with the club.
He then went on to Uniao de Leira, Porto, Chelsea twice, Real Madrid and Inter before eventually managing United.
