Sheffield United’s reward for beating Blackburn 3-2 in the FA Cup last-eight is a meeting with Premier League champions Manchester City at Wembley in the semi-finals. Manchester United will take on Brighton & Hove Albion, after the Seagulls brought Grimsby Town’s fairytale run to an end. The semi-finals will be contested on the weekend of April 22 and 23.
Championship side Sheffield United will face Manchester City in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, while Brighton & Hove Albion will face Manchester United.
The Blades have overcome Millwall, Wrexham after a replay, Tottenham and Blackburn on their way to a last-four showdown with the Premier League champions.
Sheffield United are four-time winners of the tournament but they last won it in 1925. Paul Heckingbottom’s side sit second in the Championship – some 13 points behind Burnley, whom Manchester City put six past on Saturday night to secure their berth in the final four.
On the other side of the draw, Brighton, who ended Grimsby Town’s fairytale run courtesy of a 5-0 win at the Amex on Sunday, will play Manchester United, who came from behind to beat nine-man Fulham.
Brighton are the only side left in the draw who have never lifted the FA Cup - they suffered heartbreak in the 1983 final after they held favourites Manchester United to a 2-2 draw, only to lose the replay 4-0.
United have won it 12 times while City have won it on six occasions.
The semi-finals will be contested at Wembley on the weekend of April 22 and 23.
