Football news - Paper Round: Solskjaer set for Man Utd job on permanent basis but Sarri facing sack

We begin with an exclusive from The Sun which says that Manchester United are set to appoint interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a permanent basis. The report says the club will continue to maintain they are conducting a search but privately the hunt is over.

Paper Round's view: Ultimately this may well prove to be the logical choice for United. Mauricio Pochettino is a superb manager but getting him out of Tottenham Hotspur is going to be extremely difficult. The club has completely transformed under Solskjaer and he has earned the right to take the job long-term.

The Mirror are one of many back pages that lead on Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri facing the sack. Following Chelsea's abysmal 6-0 defeat at champions Manchester City the Italian admitted he is under pressure. The Mirror report says he is 'on the brink' after a tough couple of weeks.

Paper Round's view: Chelsea may well sack Sarri but the club has to wake up and realise that the issues go far deeper than the manager. Sarri is the third manager who has struggled to get these players going and it may be that more drastic measures are eventually required...

The Mirror report that Liverpool are the latest club to register their interest in Leeds United starlet Jack Clarke. The 18-year-old has become a permanent fixture in the Leeds' first-team and has drawn attention from elsewhere. Liverpool have watched Clarke and Jurgen Klopp is reportedly impressed by the scouting reports.

Paper Round's view: Ultimately it would be preferable if Clarke could stay with his local club, ideally in the Premier League. Of course that isn't always possible and Liverpool would seem a good destination for him, either them or Spurs.

We end with an exclusive which says that Wolves are in pole position to sign Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix. The 19-year-old has become one of the hottest prospects in Europe and has been linked to a host of clubs. However Wolves' relationship with Jorge Mendes could prove the deciding factor.

Paper Round's view: This link-up between Wolves and Mendes is fascinating and as long as it continues we will probably see more moves like this. Felix is an exceptional talent but Wolves can promise him regular Premier League football, not every club can do that...
