U-21 Euro / Group Stage
Stadion Stožice / 28.03.2021
Full-time: England are on the brink of crashing out of the competition now as they fall to a 2-0 defeat to Portugal. It's not quite over, but this was another disastrous performance from Aidy Boothroyd's side. They need to beat Croatia on Wednesday and hope Portugal beat Switzerland to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages.
Under pressure from Tanganga, Ramos throws himself to ground looking for a penalty. But the referee deems that to be a dive and produces the yellow card.
Four minutes will be added on!
England win a corner and have a chance to finish on a high. And although McNeil's corner delivery is excellent, Costa is deemed to be fouled and Portugal have a free-kick.
Portugal sub: The Man of the Match, Goncalves, is replaced by Filipe Soares for the last few minutes.
Jones feeds it to Skipp on the inside as England build an attack, but the Norwich midfielder loses it and Portugal spring a counter-attack. Five minutes left to play.
England sub: Rhian Brewster comes on for Steven Sessegnon as England go to a back three.
England need a miracle to turn this around. They just haven't looked like creating a chance never mind getting on the scoresheet in this second half. The pressure just keeps heating up on manager Aidy Boothroyd.
England win a corner, but Godfrey commits a foul and the set-piece ends in frustration. Sums up their tournament so far, really.
GOAL! Portugal 2-0 England (Francisco Trincao, pen): Trincao gives Ramsdale no chance with a perfect penalty, sending the England goalkeeper the wrong way. It's a long way back for England now.
Penalty to Portugal! Guehi stands on the ankle of substitute Ramos - only on the pitch a matter of seconds - and the referee points to the spot!
Portugal sub: Carvalho is replaced by Ramos.
Double England sub: Curtis Jones and Conor Gallagher come on for Davies and Madueke.
As it stands, England will remain bottom of the group and will need to beat Croatia on Wednesday and will also need Portugal to beat Switzerland to have any chance of progressing. Long way to go still here, but England have created next to nothing - again.
There is a concern over goalscorer Mota, who goes down after a nasty collision with Godfrey. Thankfully he's going to be fit to continue though.
GOAL! Portugal 1-0 England (Dany Mota): Portugal deservedly lead and now England are in a world of trouble! England are simply outnumbered after Skipp loses possession. Goncalves drives forward and slips through Mota with a beautifully weighted pass and he makes no mistake, stroking it past Ramsdale with a first-time finish.
Portugal sub: Vieira is replaced by Conceicao.
And still no shot on target for England as Madueke carves in from the right but blazes his shot over.
So close for Portugal! There are four white shirts around him, but Vieira still manages to spin away into space and get his shot away. He aims his curling effort for the far post but it drifts agonisingly wide, with Ramsdale struggling to get there.
Vieira should do better for Portugal as he is invited to have a shot from 25 yards but leans back and shoots over the bar.
