May 24 (Reuters) - The United States will host Mexico in a September friendly in Nashville, the latest fixture in a demanding schedule after the U.S.
failed to qualify for this year's World Cup in Russia.
The U.S. Soccer Federation said in a statement on Thursday that the game, which will mark the 68th meeting between the rival nations, will be played on Sept. 11 at Nissan Stadium.
The United States and Mexico, together with Canada, are part of a joint bid to host the 2026 World Cup.
After failing to qualify for this year's World Cup, which runs from June 14-July 15, U.S. Soccer said it was determined to seek matches against world class opposition.
As part of that schedule, the United States beat Paraguay 1-0 in March and will head to Europe for friendlies against Ireland in Dublin on June 2 and 1998 world champions France in Lyon on June 9 as the French warm up for the finals.
Mexico have also qualified for this year's World Cup. (Reporting by Frank Pingue in Toronto; Editing by Ken Ferris)
