Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti was left to rue his side's failure to hold on to a 2-1 lead against Manchester United in Tuesday's Champions League semi-final, first leg.
The Rossoneri took the lead through a first half Kaka brace, only to fall to defeat on the night after Wayne Rooney's double put United back in the driving seat ahead of next Wednesday's second leg at the San Siro.
"We dominated for an hour and a draw would have been the right result," Ancelotti said. "It's disappointing, but we were foolish and gifted Manchester United the victory when a draw was probably the more accurate reflection of the game.
"We fell back in the final stages, couldn't move the ball around the same way and gave away a silly deciding goal in stoppage time.
"We knew Manchester never give up and that there would be moments of difficulty, as they are very aggressive and play at a high tempo. The shame is that we played better for an hour, but in turn that gives us more confidence for the second leg."
Milan are no strangers to facing an uphill task in the second leg of a Champions League tie, having recorded a 2-0 away win in Munich to progress past Bayern in the quarter-final after the first leg had ended 2-2 at the San Siro, and Ancelotti believes his side are capable of turning it round in a week's time.
He added: "We're in better shape than we were in the Bayern tie at this stage."
