ALL OVER!

Portugal had three Silvas to thank in the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo as they recovered from a goal down to beat Poland in the Nations League.

After Krzysztof Piatek scored his first for Poland – having already netted 13 times in eight games for Genoa this season – it was all Portugal thereafter.

The first Silva to get in on the act was Andre, who turned home from Pizzi’s cross, and then Rafa was cruelly denied after gloriously bringing down Ruben Neves’ pinpoint pass, with Kamil Glik sending the ball into his own net with a sliding tackle.

After the break, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva made it three, and though Jakub Blaszczykowski breathed some life into the game, Portugal held on to deservedly make it two wins from two in the Nations League.

90+2'

Portugal clearing their lines by any means possible as we enter the final two minutes...

90'

FOUR minutes added on.

90'

SAVE! Fabianski tips Sanches' effort over the bar and Portugal can take their time with this corner.

And of course waste more time with a final sub!

87'

The home fans are heartily singing the national anthem, trying to rouse their team. Can they rescue a draw? Is it made for a Lewandowski equaliser late on? Going by his night so far, probably not. But I've been wrong before.

Second sub for Portugal! On comes Danilo.

84'

DENIED! Sanches is through on goal, he rounds the keeper... but what a defensive block on the line by Kedziora to deny the one-time Swansea man!

80'

Sanches is down holding his face. Need to see a replay..... but one doesn't come. Great.

79'

A string of errors defensively from Portugal, but it came after manager Santos believes the ball went out for a throw-in. As you can tell, though, play went on!

  • Jakub Blaszczykowski
GoalJakub BlaszczykowskiPolandGOAL! Poland are back in it! I said it was all-but over... but how wrong I am. An awful sliced clearance from Pepe sets up Blaszczykowski, but he still has plenty of work to do. It's a superb first-time effort though, into the far corner beyond Patricio.

76'

CLOSE! Poland come within a whisker of getting back into this game... Zielinski's cross is met by Bednarek and it is just wide of the far post.

74'

Now it's Pepe who goes in the book and it means he will miss their next Nations League match against Italy. No arguments.

72'

Still no changes from Portugal. You'd imagine this is a good time to make them. Game all-but wrapped up.... I would say.

Has been all Portugal pretty much since Poland opened the scoring. Not the 100th cap Lewandowski would have wished for. So far.

Some display from the three Silvas tonight. They would have a goal apiece if it was not for Glik sliding the ball into his own net when Rafa was about to tap in!

  • Bernardo Silva

51'

Home fans are trying to get behind their team, and they almost have something to shout about, but Zielinski's effort is a yard or so wide of the top corner. Patricio far more confident that it was going wide than most would be.

  • Mateusz Klich

Poland looked happy (for a short while, at least) defending their lead, but now they have to chase the game you feel they really have to step it up. No chances of note for Lewandowski so far.

A wonderful long pass from Neves is brought down beautifully by R.Silva, who glides past Fabianski, but the sliding tackle from Glik ends up sending the ball into the net when Silva would have had a simple tap-in.

41'

Whistles ringing out across the stadium and that tells you it's because Portugal are enjoying the majority of possession.

Andre Silva is twice the focal point of the attacks, but an elaborate attempt does not pay off before he is then flagged for offside.

40'

It's Portugal who are dominating now. Finding plenty of joy down the right in particular, Poland defending with everyone but Lewandowski behind the ball.

  • André Silva

36'

From a Poland corner, a chance for Portugal... Patricio sets the visitors on the counter and B.Silva rolls it over for R.Silva, but he can't get enough power on the shot and it's easily saved.

34'

SAVE! Portugal with the wind in their sails now and this time it's A.Silva who lays it off for Pizzi, but his low strike is saved by Fabianski.

29'

Nothing comes of the second corner and Poland win a free-kick to ease the pressure.

28'

Last-ditch defending from Poland. A flurry of blocks with Cancelo appealing for a handball and R.Silva seeing his effort deflect over the bar.

B.Silva sends the corner in, and it's another corner...

25'

Not much by way of a Portugal response. Poland have done well to quell the Silvas up front so far.

23'

Shot to nothing from Cancelo outside the area but it sails well wide.

21'

That is Piatek's first ever goal for Poland.

The Genoa striker has scored nine goals in seven Serie A games so far this season. Remarkable.

17'

NO PENALTY!

Cancelo runs to the referee asking why no penalty has been given, having gone down some 15 seconds earlier following a slide tackle from Kurzawa. On first viewing, looked a tough call - and they haven't shown a replay since!

15'

Was a pretty bright start but it has gone a bit quiet in the last few minutes. Evenly matched, you would have to say.

13'

Late tackle from Zielinski on Rui, Napoli midfielder on Napoli full-back. Zielinski escapes a yellow, but doubt Carlo Ancelotti will have enjoyed seeing that!

12'

Kurzawa plays Lewandowski through on goal, he only has the goalkeeper beat..... but the flag goes up belatedly and the Bayern striker shakes his head in disappointment. Tight call, probably just right!

8'

CLOSE! Portugal's turn to attack and they win the first corner. Rui picks out A.Silva in the middle but his flick flies just over the bar.

6'

Bereszynski stays down a while after winning a free-kick down the right. Kurzawa's cross it is, but Glik can only stick a leg out and wide it goes.

4'

SAVE! Solid start from Poland, and they eek out the first chance of the match. It's Piatek who gets a shot away, but Wolves' Rui Patricio who easily gets down to make the stop.

2'

So Portugal could take a commanding lead at the top of Group A3 with victory tonight. They are currently on three points after beating Italy 1-0, while the Italians and Poland are on one point after a 1-1 draw in Bologna.

KICK-OFF

And away we go. All eyes on Lewandowski on his 100th cap, while Portugal have THREE Silvas in their forward line. Here's hoping for a goodun.

When we last met…

Remember that tournament Portugal drew six of their seven games (after 90 minutes) and still won the whole thing? Yeah, that one, Euro 2016. These two last met in the quarters, with Portugal beating Poland 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw!

NO RONALDO

Portugal coach Fernando Santos opted not to call-up Ronaldo after speaking with the forward.

Ronaldo is being sued by a woman in the United States, who claims he raped her in the penthouse suite of a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. The Portugal international, 33, has firmly denied the allegations, saying it “goes against everything that I am and believe in”. (For the latest, click on the story below)

Last week, Santos said: "I personally always support my players and here it is not even a question of solidarity, I believe what the player said publicly, he considers (rape) an abject act and clearly reaffirms that he is innocent of what he is being accused of.

"There was a conversation with the player, the president of the federation (Fernando Gomes) and I. We agreed that the player would not be in these two call-ups, this and the next one in November."

100 UP FOR SUPER LEWY

So it’s appearance No 100 for Robert Lewandowski in a Poland shirt tonight. Can the nation’s all-time top scorer add to his tally of 55 goals?
