- GoalAndré SilvaPortugal
GOAL! Portugal 4 (Andre Silva 90+4) Croatia 1
It's a drubbing. Pepe glances a corner to the back post, where Andre Silva slides in to divert the ball into the net from inches out.
We're into the final minute of injury time, as Livakovic saves well from Jota.
- GoalBruno PetkovicCroatia
GOAL! Portugal 3 Croatia 1 (Petkovic 90+1')
A consolation for the visitors as a lovely flicked pass releases Petkovic into the Portuguese area, and he tucks a low finish into the net.
Keep ball for Portugal now as they run the clock down.
Andre Silva replaces Joao Felix for Portugal.
CLOSE! More energy from Croatia in the last few minutes. A good break gets them to the edge of the area and Brozavic shoots just wide.
Petkovic takes Pepe on a run down the left and goes past him, but his cross to the back post is cleared by Guerreiro.
Moutinho is replaced by Sergio Oliveira.
A brief chance for Trincao as Joao Felix cuts the ball back to him near the six-yard box, but he can't wrap his foot around the ball to direct his shot on target.
Bernardo Silva comes off and new Barcelona signing Francisco Trincao comes on for Portugal.
- Yellow cardBorna BarišicCroatia
Petkovic replaces Kramaric for Croatia. A few minutes ago, Barisic picked up a yellow card.
There could be a load on here for Portugal if they're keen. Just before the goal they strung together a sequence of lovely passes to break from one side of the pitch to the other; they really are a lovely side to watch.
GOAL! Portugal 3 (Joao Felix 70) Croatia 0
Joao Felix gets in on the act now. Bernardo Silva has all the time in the world to square it to him on the edge of the box, and Joao Felix wallops a shot that goes through the grasp of Livakovic and bounces high into the net.
An excellent run from Jota takes him 50 yards and all the way into the left on the Croat area. He has no support though and has to cut back on himself, and the chance of a third goes with it for now.
Bruno Fernandes briefly looks like he's in on goal from a long ball but it's pulled back as he's judged to have bumped Vida out of the way illegally.
- OffMario PasalicCroatia
- OnMarcelo BrozovicCroatia
A double change for Croatia, Perisic and Brozavic are on.
Jedvaj is having one here. Jota gets away from him down the left and Jedvaj crudely hacks him down from behind.
- GoalDiogo JotaPortugal
GOAL! Portugal 2 (Jota 58) Croatia 0
It's two. Guerreiro stands a lovely ball over the head of Jedvaj and Jota is in on goal. He cuts in from the left of the penalty area and tucks a low shot underneath Livakovic.
Bruno Fernandes finds Bernardo Silva on the right of the penalty area. Silva cuts it back to Bruno Fernandes but his low drive from the edge of the area is straight at Livakovic.
Brekalo gets some rare time on the ball in midfield, but his cross into the area for Kramaric has too much on it and the ball drifts out of the Portuguese area.
Bruno Fernandes takes it, but whips his shot high over the bar.
A lightning one-two between Jota and Fernandes sends the former racing into the area. Lovren throws out a leg and fouls him right on the edge of the penalty area on the left, free kick.
Bernardo Silva slips a nice ball to Joao Felix in the area. It's a tight angle, and Joao Felix tries a chip-up-and-volley bit it's blocked away for a throw-in.
More intricate play from Portugal as Jota jinks into a crossing position on the left of the area. He puts a good ball across the six-yard box, but Bernardo Silva was on his heels at the back post and the chance disappears.
Croatia win a free-kick as Guerreiro catches Jedvaj on the right, but nothing comes if it.
- 2nd Half
We're underway again in Porto.
Half a chance for Kramaric here as Croatia break down the left. He cuts infield and curls one for the top corner, but it drifts a couple of yards wide.
That was a lovely hit from Cancelo. Moutinho almost gets in for Portugal now, but Lovren intercepts just as he advanced into the area.
- GoalJoão CanceloPortugal
GOAL! Portugal 1 (Cancelo 41) Croatia 0
It's not so much been coming as been inevitable. Cancelo dances across the face of the Croat area and shoots with his left foot from 20 yards out. Livakovic gets a hand to it, but only fingertips as it flies into the top corner. A superb goal.
Brief respite for Croatia here, as they knock it around in the Portuguese half and Kramaric wins a corner out on the left.
OFF THE POST AGAIN! Portugal work a short corner to Guerreiro, who unloads from the edge of the area. It smashes off the inside of the post, rebounds onto the heel of the diving Livakovic and trickles just past the post for a corner.
A ball from Bruno Fernandes to Bernardo Silva at the back post is a fraction from being perfect and just evades the Manchester City player. Portugal have some serious technical ability in this front six.
A sudden burst from Croatia now. They break quickly, and Rebic whips a dangerous cross to the back post that Joao Felix glances behind for a corner.
Jota has another go, racing onto a smart square ball from Bernardo Silva and bursting into the area, but he can only drill his shot into the side-netting.
OFF THE POST AGAIN! Livakovic was beaten this time. A whipped cross from Bruno Fernandes finds Jota on the six-yard box, and his header back across goal clips the outside of the post and goes behind.
GREAT DOUBLE SAVE! Pepe thunders a header at goal from a corner, and Livakovic makes a superb reaction save on his line. Pepe scuffs the follow up back at goal and looks certain to score, but Livakovic somehow turns the ball behind from a sitting position. That is superb goalkeeping.
OFF THE POST! A 20-yard drive from I think Joao Felix catches a deflection and hits the post with Livakovic stranded. The goalkeeper then makes a brilliant save as Guerreiro booms in the rebound from a tight angle. Portugal are seriously knocking here.
Guerreiro advances down the left for Portugal, but his long, looping cross goes behind for a goal kick.
GOOD SAVE! Cancelo cuts into the Croat area and wallops a shot from a tight angle with the outside of his foot. Livakovic makes a smart one-handed save to put the ball behind for a corner.
Portugal come so close to cutting open Croatia. Joao Felix cuts his way beautifully into the penalty area, but rather than shoot he lays it to Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the six-yard box. He spins to shoot but loses control of it, and Croatia clear.
CHANCE! A long ball over the top puts Bruno Fernandes in behind the Croat defence. His first touch goes wide, so he cuts it back to Joao Felix who sees his shot blocked superbly by a sliding challenge from Vida.
Cancelo takes off on an energetic sortie down the right for Portugal. He makes the byline in the area but his cross is blocked and deflects back off his thigh, goal kick to Croatia.
Some lovely, intricate passing by Portugal just outside the Croat area, but it breaks down when Moutinho's forward ball is deflected and intercepted.
Bernardo Silva drifts across the face of the Croat area, and lays the ball off to Fernandes; he hits a daisy cutter from 30 yards straight down the gullet of Livakovic.
A lofted ball over the top on the right finds Cancelo, but he's beaten to the ball by Barisic and it drifts behind. That looks like it should be a corner but it's not given.
Bruno Fernandes gets in a useful position on the corner of the Croatia box, but his cross is headed clear by Lovren. They eventually work the ball back to Danilo on the edge of the area, but he blazes his shot high over the bar.
Croatia have the first chance. Vlasic gets the ball between the Portuguese defence and midfield, and unloads a shot from 20 yards with the outside of his right foot. Lopes tips it around the post for a corner.
We're underway in Porto.
The teams are out and we're just going through the anthems, kick-off to come shortly.
The two other teams in group A3, Sweden and France, will be playing concurrently in Solna tonight.
Portugal have never lost to Croatia in international football, having won four and drawn one of the five encounters to date. The most recent competitive meeting between the two was at Euro 2016 where a late goal by Ricardo Quaresma put Portugal through to the quarterfinals, on their way to winning the whole tournament.
For Croatia the 2020-21 Nations League is an opportunity for transition. Several of the key players that took the team so close to becoming world champions in Russia in 2018 are now into their thirties. Zlatko Dalic is still at the helm, and will be looking to mould a team capable of competing at that level in future tournaments.
Portugal begin the defence of their UEFA Nations League title tonight, having won the inaugural tournament in the Estadio do Dragao just 15 months ago. They are also the holders of the European Championship and will be looking to build a team capable of retaining the main continental title at the rescheduled tournament next summer.
No Cristiano Ronaldo in the match day squad for Portugal, so the wait his century of international goals will continue. It’s a team littered with attacking talent though. In what looks likely to be a 4-3-3, Bruno Fernandes should be advanced in midfield behind a front three of Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Bernardo Silva.
Your hosts tonight, Portugal:
Nothing from the hosts on their team yet, so a quick word on Croatia. They are missing their two most experience players tonight; Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic, their captain and vice-captain respectively, both pulled out of the squad in the build-up. Ivan Perisic, who recently won the Champions League title with Bayern Munich, is in the squad however and should be on the bench.
Here are the visitors tonight, Croatia:
