FULL TIME: Netherlands 3-0 England. NETHERLANDS ARE INTO THE FINAL
England's European Championships are over. They will have regrets over this match. They should have done so much better, but the Dutch were the better side on the night. The host nation will play Denmark in the final. On this performance, they will be the favourites for that match.
- Own-goalMillie BrightEngland (W)
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Netherlands 3 (92 mins - Millie Bright OG) England 0. The Dutch put the finishes touches on the win, with Bright diverting a powerful shot past Chamberlain and into the net. There was nothing she could have done about that.
Kirby takes aim from the edge of the box, but the shot flashes past the near post. That was the very last chance for England to claw their way back into contention. It's over now.
Just two minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
- OffShanice van de SandenNetherlands (W)
- OnRenate JansenNetherlands (W)
There's another change from the Dutch as they look to run down the clock. They're enjoying this now.
OFF THE LINE! It's just not meant to be England's night. This time it's Duggan who gets the shot away on goal from a corner kick, but Spitse is back on the line to make the clearance.
SHOT AND SAVE! White gets released in behind the Dutch defensive line, getting the shot away on goal, but the Netherlands goalkeeper makes the save at her near post. Good stop.
Is there some late drama left in this match? England are giving it everything they've got. White is looking much more dangerous since she moved into a more central position up front.
This will be viewed as a real missed opportunity for England. This was a chance for them to win this competition after the elimination of Germany. Instead, they look set to exit as well.
Duggan has given England some intensity in the final third, but it's too little too late. This is probably the Lionesses' best spell of the match, but they only have seven minutes left.
The problem all throughout this game for England has been in the final third, where they haven't really created much. But they have had two great opportunities now and spurned them.
WHAT A CHANCE! How didn't Taylor score? She saw her effort saved by van Veenendaal in the Dutch goal from close range. She probably should have sqaured to Duggan.
Sampson is down on the touchline, urging his England players to keep going, to keep trying to make things happen. However, there is a certain resignaton starting to creep in.
Netherlands are still set up with a back four, but they have so many players helping out when they don't have the ball, and when they do have the ball they can hit out on the counter.
England need the experience of Carney at this point. She has been in this position before, of course, having been in an England team that made the final of this tournament.
That was a real waste from Houghton. England won the freekick on the edge of the Dutch penalty area, but the captain puts the set piece well over the target. Should have tested the keeper.
- OffJade MooreEngland (W)
- OnKaren CarneyEngland (W)
Here's another change for England, with Carney coming on for the Lionesses.
The Dutch just don't look like conceding as things stand. They have only conceded once in these European Championships. They have been so strong at the back. Really impressive.
Do England have anything left in the tank? Some of their key players, like Taylor and Kirby, are starting to look a little weary. They need someone to take this game by the scruff of the neck.
PENALTY CALL! The England players believe they should have been awarded a penalty for a challenge by Spitse on Bronze, but the referee waves away their claims.
- OffStefanie van der GragtNetherlands (W)
- OnKelly ZeemanNetherlands (W)
Here's a change for the hosts, with Zeeman coming on for Netherlands.
Time is running out for England. The Dutch are pressing for a third goal. The Lionesses just can't get hold of the ball. The host nation are controlling things at the moment. Impressive.
The introduction of Duggan should give England more intensity and creativity in the final third. There's a case to be made that she should have been brought on at the interval.
HUGE CHANCE FOR WHITE! That was the chance for England to drag themselves back into this game. The ball was played over the top for White, but she couldn't guide her shot on target.
- OffFara WilliamsEngland (W)
- OnToni DugganEngland (W)
Indeed, there's the change and Duggan comes on for England.
Looks like Sampson is about to make a change to his England team. They need something to turn around this game. It looks like Duggan is coming on for the Lionesses.
So this will be a real test for England now. They are two goals down with just 25 minutes of this semi final left to play. They need to make more of their opportunities in the final third.
- GoalDaniëlle van de DonkNetherlands (W)
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Netherlands 2 (63 mins - Danielle Van de Doonk) England 0. Disaster for England! Williams attempts a header back to Chamberlain, but Van de Doonk nips in and clips the ball over the England goalkeeper to give the hosts a two goal lead.
- Yellow cardDaniëlle van de DonkNetherlands (W)
There's the booking for van de Donk. She's been rather persistent with a number of fouls.
The good news is that you haven't really missed much. There was a decent opportunity for Kirby on the attack for England a few moments ago, but she made the wrong choice with the pass.
Apologies for the sporadic updates at the start of the second half. Some technical issues on our end of things. Hopefully they will be resolved now.
The Dutch are on top in almost every area at the moment. It was a rather open affair in the first half, but the host nation are now controlling things. They have a lead to protect.
Netherlands are looking to play out from the back and that is causing them some stress. England are pressing high and looking to force them into mistakes. It's not really working, though.
England are doing a good job of keeping the ball, but they need to make it count in the final third. The Dutch are finding it far too easy to keep them at arm's length. More cutting edge needed.
A SHOT AND A SAVE! Van den Sanden takes the shot from about 25 yards out, bringing the save out of Chamberlain in the England goal. Two Liverpool players on opposite sides.
This has been a high tempo start to the second half by both teams. England are desperately looking for a way back into the match, while Netherlands are also carrying a threat.
SHOT AWAY ON GOAL! A good turn from Taylor creates some space on the edge of the penalty area, but her shot was saved by van Veenendaal with not much fuss. Good idea, though.
Just a reminder of the goal that splits the two teams at the moment.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Netherlands have a 1-0 lead over England.
What did you make of the first half? Does England manager Sampson have reason to be concerned? Are Netherlands more likely to score another than concede? Tweet me!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Netherlands 1-0 England. The Lionesses are up against it at the break, with Miedema's goal the difference between the two sides. The Dutch have the advanatage.
Netherlands have the lead, but it feels like they need the half time break to regroup an gather their thoughts and their composure. They have got a bit ragged in the last few moments.
Nobbs takes the strike from about 20 yards out after a freekick routine presented her with the shooting opportunity, but the Dutch goalkeper was able to watch it all the way.
Sampson is so angry with one of the referee's decisions that he has ripped his white shirt at the back. One of his assistants has now given him his suit jacket to cover it up.
Sampson is furious with the decision from the referee not to award his team a freekick for what he viewed to be a foul. Is the pressure now starting to tell on England?
The ball was played in behind the Netherlands defence for Kirby to chase, but van Veenendaal comes off her line to gather it. The England midfielder was a yard or two away from getting there.
I get the feeling that England are really going to crank up the pressure in the final few moments of this first half. Netherlands are dropping deeper and deeper towards their own goal.
They are trailing at the moment, but England have turned in a reasoanble performance so far. They just need to find a way to pose more a dangerous in the final third of the pitch.
Just a reminder that this match is on the Eurosport Player. You can watch here (link below).
That was rather ambitious from Bronze. The ball fell to the right back about 25 yards after a cross into the box was partially cleared, but she strikes her effort well wide of the target.
Netherlands are now attempting to calm things down by keeping the ball along the back and into midfield. But that ends when they attempt to play a long one over the top of England.
Of course, just in case you missed the result from the other semi-final, the winner of this semi final will face Denmark in the final after their win over Austria on penalties earlier.
Sampson is out on the touchline with his arms crossed. He doesn't look too worried about things at the moment. There's still a long, long way to go in this semi final.
That was a waste from England. They were given the chance to cross a freekick into the Dutch penalty area, but Houghton makes the wrong choice and fires a shot well over the bar.
The positive for England is that they have responded well to going a goal down. Netherlands are having to dig deep here as they look to preserve the lead they have just established.
OFF THE POST! Moore gets on the end of a corner kick to head towards goal, but Spitse was on hand to stop it from finding the net, forcing it on to the woodwork. So close!
OVER THE BAR! Bronze does so well to keep hold of the ball and square it for Kirby, but the England player could only strike over the bar. She probably should have done better.
The danger from the Dutch was always going to come from the wings and that's exactly what happened. England didn't do enough to stop the delivery from being made in the first place.
- GoalVivianne MiedemaNetherlands (W)
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Netherlands 1 (21 mins - Viviane Miedema) England 0. The host nation has the lead in the 21st minute of the match! The cross came in from the right wing, with new Arsenal signing Miedema climbing higher than anyone else to head past the keper.
Although having said that, Netherlands are now doing a decent job of holding on to the ball themselves. The home side are playing well at the moment. That will be a concern for Sampson.
We're now starting to see the flow of this match. England are holding on to the ball as the more dominant side, but Netherlands carry of threat whenever they come forward on the break.
Van den Sanden is giving England's defence a problem. She wins the ball just inside the opposition half, crossing it into the area, but Bright was on hand to make the clearance.
- Yellow cardMillie BrightEngland (W)
There's another booking, with the referee eventually flashing the yellow to Bright.
Van Veenendaal collides with Bright on the edge of the box as the Dutch goalkeeper attempts to launch a rapid counter attack after a corner kick. The keeper isn't happy with that one.
- Yellow cardDesiree van LunterenNetherlands (W)
Indeed, it is a booking for Van Lunteren. The England players get their way.
SORE ONE! That was a late challenge from Van Lunteren on White. She left a foot in on the England player and the Lionesses are asking the referee why that isn't a yellow card.
The wide areas are where much of the battle will be fought. It's not just that Netherlands have plenty of threat there, it's that England have two flying full backs in Stokes and Bronze.
Now Netherlands are growing into the contest as well. This is shaping up to be a compelling match. At the moment, both teams are just feeling each other out. No chances yet.
England need to be very wary of the counter attack from Netherlands. They have pace to burn in the wide areas, with Van de Sanden and Martens two very dangerous players.
So England are starting to settle into their stride now. Kirby is taking it upon herself to knock the ball around the middle of the pitch, but Nobbs gives possession away when it comes to her.
There's a lot of familiarity between these two sets of players. One wonders if that will have any sort of impact on the outcome of the game. A lot of them actually play in England together.
This has been a slightly nervous start to the match by England. One of the challenges for them will be silencing the Dutch crowd inside the stadium. It's a great atmoshere. Plenty noise and colour.
Sampson will want his players to take better care of the ball than they have in the past two games. That could be the key to getting the better of this Netherlands side.
What an opportunity this is for England. The Dutch are the only hurdle for them to clear before they make it to the final of these championships. This will be a really tough test for them.
