It was an advert that spawned a catchphrase and now, nearly 30 years on from its broadcast, everyone knows exactly who Accrington Stanley are.
In a 1989 advert, the Milk Marketing Board portrayed that if two boys didn’t drink their milk, they would only ever be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley and not Liverpool.
“Accrington Stanley, who are they?” the script went, with the riposte: “Exactly”.

However, after Stanley’s promotion to League One this week, the town’s Asda supermarket did not miss a chance to revive the catchphrase.
You suspect that plenty of youngsters in Accrington will be happy to raise a glass of milk nowadays.
