FULL-TIME: Italy 0-1 Brazil

All over in Valenciennes and both sides will be happy with the full-time result. Marta's history-making moment ensures Brazil qualify in third, while Italy top Group C ahead of Italy despite the defeat!

Brazil have the ball in the half they want! May as well blow the whistle now...

Four minutes added on. Will Italy push for an equaliser? They haven't look too bothered knowing they'll top the group as it stands.

Would you believe it - a fourth for Kerr and Australia!

Italy 0-1 Brazil

SAVE! The ball falls kindly for Bergamaschi but she can only get a slight connection on it before Barbara gathers it.

A moment of history and now Marta heads off - after goal No 17 at a World Cup, she is replaced by Luana.

Italy 0-1 Brazil

Less than 10 minutes to go but as it stands Italy will still top the group! Wonder if they'll chase the equaliser?

Going back to the penalty, do feel sorry for Linari, who used her strength to shoulder Debinha off the ball, but it was enough for the referee to point to the spot. Not overturned either.

Final sub for Italy as Mauro comes on for Girelli.

Italy 0-1 Brazil

Boattin is on for Bartoli for Italy, while Poliana replaces Leticia Santos.

So this is pretty fascinating as we enter the final 15 minutes. It's Italy top, Brazil second, Australia third, all on six points, but all that could change with goal difference.

GOAAAAAL! And it's history for Marta!

She scores from the spot - sending Giuliani the wrong way - and she is now the outright all-time leading scorer at a World Cup. That's her 17th goal in this tournament, surpassing Miroslav Klose's tally of 16 for men's Germany team.

Italy 0-0 Brazil

The penalty is given!

And Marta steps up to take...

Italy 0-0 Brazil

Debinha goes to ground after being barged off the ball by Linari - but it's going to be checked...

Kerr has a hat-trick for Australia and they now lead Jamaica 3-1! Another hat-trick in this group... but still no goals between Italy and Brazil!

Italy 0-0 Brazil

SAVE! Almost a lovely goal for Brazil as Marta flicks it up and over for Debinha, but her volley is saved by Giuliani.

Burst of pace from Bergamaschi but she overhits her pass for Bonansea - Girelli has her arms up on the other side of the pitch, the right pass and she would have been through on goal!

Italy 0-0 Brazil

WIDE! Almost an instant impact from Beatriz! It's great work from Ludmila down the wing and her low cross is flicked towards goal by Beatriz, who sees her effort sail narrowly wide of the far post.

Italy 0-0 Brazil

Great defending from Guagni as she gets a vital head onto the cross with Cristiane ready to pounce.

And that will be Cristiane's evening over with Beatriz on to replace her.

First sub of the match as Bergamaschi comes on for Giacinti.

Here's what a first World Cup goal means to Jamaica! Great scenes.

Marta earns a corner for Brazil but she'll be frustrated to see her cross blocked. Andressinha's cross then comes in but Italy do well to deal with it.

Italy 0-0 Brazil

JUST WIDE! So very close for Brazil, with Kathellen rising highest to meet a deep cross, but her header sails just a whisker wide of the far post.

Slower pace this half than it was in the first - Italy won't be in any rush knowing a draw is good enough to top the group. It's on Brazil to take the game to them!

Italy 0-0 Brazil

OFF THE BAR! Andressinha gets it up and over the wall but it clips the top of the bar and goes over!

Italy 0-0 Brazil

Free-kick for Brazil 20 yards out. Big, big chance...

What a moment for Jamaica!

Havana Solaun scores the nation's FIRST EVER World Cup goal, and they now trail Australia 2-1!

Italy 0-0 Brazil

Ludmila wants a corner but the referee is not interested - Italy have been resolute in defence so far!

Italy 0-0 Brazil

Almost breaks for Italy inside the area but Barbara does well to come out and collect!

Bright start from Italy and they win an early corner....

2nd Half

And we are back under way. At this stage, it's Italy top, Australia second, Brazil third - all set to go through - but a goal in this game could change all that!

A goalless first half comes to an end, but it has been a great 45 minutes of football. Both teams could have broken the deadlock, but a couple of great saves, as well as an offside flag, means we head into the break at 0-0!

Just the one minute added on!

Another goal for Kerr and Australia - they lead 2-0 against Jamaica!

SAVE! Almost the breakthrough for Italy but it's Barbara to the rescue for Brazil! She makes a point-blank save to deny Bonansea - perhaps too close to the goalkeeper but Barbara was heading in the other direction. It could easily be 2-2 already, but alas, still 0-0!

A deep cross picks out Cristiane but her header is blocked. It's being checked by VAR after it strikes the arm but it would have been harsh with the arm by Linari's side - and it is rightly not given!

Bartoli just needs to calm down somewhat as she argues with the referee. Already on a yellow, it's not worth talking your way into an early bath!

A Mexican Wave signals that this match has not been too entertaining the past few minutes. It has been a superb half overall, but no chances recently.

Here's that ruled out goal... what a finish!

It really would have been...

WHAT A GOAL! But the flag has gone up!!

Girelli is cool as cool can be when she brings it down, flicks it over Leticia Santos then fires it past Barbara, but replays show she is a good yard or two offside from the flick-on. Good decision, and no need for it to be overturned!

A poor clearance is headed straight to Giacinti, who takes a touch but then sees her effort hit the head of Monica.

A wicked cross from Galli only just bounces wide of the far post. Girelli close to gettiting to it but not close enough!

A decent effort from Debinha sails just a yard wide of the far post after she took a touch and did not hesitate to strike it on the bounce. Italy just need to string a few passes together here. All Brazil still.

Cristiane thinks she's fouled some 25 yards out by Gama but the referee waves play on and though she does well to keep the attack going, a long ball runs out for an Italy throw-in.

Brazil really are knocking on the door now and Debinha looks to head it across for Cristiane but she can't get there ahead of Linari.

All Brazil at the moment. Cue an Italy goal...

Marta takes the free-kick from near the corner flag, but it's headed away for a corner.

WHAT A SAVE! This was almost like Zola's flick from some 15 years ago! Marta's low cross heads for the near post and Debinha flicks it with her back foot and forces a brilliant save from Giuliani.

Moments later the ball hits the bar from a cross and Brazil continue their onslaught with another corner...

CHANCE! The cross meets Kathellen but she heads just wide!!

Now it's Bartoli who gets a yellow for a reckless challenge on Debinha, she absolutely flies into the tackle and Debinha is lucky there was not proper contact!

Booking for Leticia Santos after a late tackle - the Brazilian puts her hands up apologetically but it's a tackle worthy of a yellow in truth!

Sam Kerr has given Australia the lead in the other match against Jamaica. Still plenty of time before we work out what that means for each nation!

Giugliano takes but it's headed away. Ludmila leads the counter with an impressive burst of speed - the commentator reminds us of her 'Road Runner' nickname for the second time already - but her long ball is intercepted by Giuliani!

Superb play from Bonansea down the left but her cross can't find a team-mate in blue. They come again though and earn a corner...

Italy just growing in confidence after Brazil's strong start. Great pace to the game so far and you would hope that makes for a few goals too!

Another corner for Brazil but Italy clear once more.

GOOD SAVE! Italy go on the break and it's Bonansea who cuts inside before striking low and forcing a good save from Barbara at her near post.

Brazil make a meal of clearing the resulting corner but just about do so!

Brazil earn the first corner of the game but it comes to nothing after it's played short. Guagni then goes in hard on Ludmila down the wing - let her know you're there early doors and all that. Strong but fair tackle.

Something very World Cup about seeing the yellow and blue of Brazil against the blue and white of Italy.

Decent start for Brazil so far, dominating possession in the early stages.

Right then! The stage is set - time to see how Group C will pan out...

Team anthems under way, almost time for kick-off!

The camera cuts to Brazil's No 7 Andressa who's in tears watching her team-mates warm-up. Not only is she out tonight but she's out for the remainder of the tournament. Devastating blow and it's difficult to see her looking so distraught - 'I'm not saying it's a distraction, but you need to find a time and a place to deal with your emotions,' Hope Solo says on BBC comms.

Marta and Cristiane will be out to seal top spot at Italy’s expense tonight. Marta has scored in every World Cup this century, while Cristiane already has four World Cup goals to her name this tournament, having scored a hat-trick against Jamaica and another against Australia!

Will be fascinating to see how Italy’s defence handle these two tonight.

Final preparations.

Gold n Green.

15 minutes until kick-off!

Stats - Good omens for Brazi, who have beaten Italy in their last three meetings, and won back in 1999 the last time these two met in the World Cup.

Australia and Jamaica are meeting for the very first time in ANY competition!

What to look out for tonight...

Take 2 after the first tweet was deleted!

Also worth noting that in this six-group tournament the top three can qualify from this group. If Brazil and Australia reach four points that will be guaranteed.

So… it’s arguably the most exciting finale of all the groups. Italy have won their first two games and can guarantee top with a point, but both Brazil and Australia know big wins could help them come first. Jamaica need to overhaul a huge goal difference deficit to even dream of qualifying for the knockout stage, but in reality it’s a three-team shootout for top spot. Game on!
