We're more than a quarter of the way through this last-16 clash and it could really go either way. Netherlands are ahead, and have had the better chances but Japan have shown that they're certainly capable of getting back into it.

Off the post!
Almost an instant reply from Japan. Sugasawa and Iwaguchi link up brilliantly and the latter takes an early shot. Van Veenendaal was beaten but it kisses the outside of the box and goes wide.

GOAL!
Martens has been brilliant so far and she has her reward. The corner comes in from Spitse and she darts ahead of her marker and back-heels it at the near post. It takes a small nick off Sugasawa which wrong-foots Yamashita.

Chaos in the Japan box.
For a third time Martens gets down the left and delivers towards Miedema, whose header is tame. Ichise then makes a superb block from the follow-up. Netherlands appeal for a penalty but it would have been incredibly harsh.

A fine challenge from Van der Gragt stops Japan's counterattack in its tracks and begins a move of the Netherlands' own. Martens does well down the left again and puts in another dangerous cross but it's just out of Miedema's reach.

So it's been a very interesting start here.
Japan have looked excellent in possession but the first bag chance has fallen Netherlands' way.

First big chance!
Martens does brilliantly down the left, turning on the pace to get past her marker and whip in a wicked delivery straight to the waiting Miedema but her volley is denied by a wonderful and very brave block from Sameshima.

And we're off!
Japan get this final last 16 game started and immediately look to go long but the Dutch defend well.
