Glorious failure, once again. Scotland were just a single goal away from making the World Cup play-offs. They just weren't good enough this evening. Slovenia deserved to win, at least draw. Strachan's tactics were too negative in the second half. So cruel for Scotland. So cruel.

- End of 2nd Half
FULL TIME: Slovenia 2-2 Scotland
SNODGRASS HEADER! The Scotland attacker gets on the end of the long ball forward, flicking a header towards goal, but Oblak makes the simple save and that's just about that.
Scotland are pressing high and giving this everything they have got. They need just one goal. This has been a poor display from them, but one goal will change everything for them.
We've hardly kicked a ball in stoppage time yet due to stoppages. Surely the referee is taking note of this. Surely we'll have more than the four minutes that were indicated.
- Red cardBoštjan CesarSlovenia
SENT OFF! I'm not entirely sure what's happened but Cesar has been shown a straight red card.
FOUR minutes of stoppage time to be played at the end of the match.
- GoalRobert SnodgrassScotland
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Slovenia 2 Scotland 2 (88 mins - Robert Snodgrass). OUT OF NOWHERE! Scotland have scored a late equaliser, but they need another one! Snodgrass got on the end of it to prod high into the corner of the net.
It's quite astonishing to look at this game and think how Slovenia have nothing to play for but pride. This game doesn't matter to them, but they have been the ones pressing and creating.
There will be serious pressure on Strachan after this game. His tactics in this second half have been atrocious. Griffiths hasn't been given a chance. It's been incredibly negative.
There's just no sign of a Scotland comeback here. They simply can't get hold of the ball. It's Slovenia who are pressing high, bossing the game. They're going for another one. Depressing.
- Yellow cardCharlie MulgrewScotland
There's a yellow card for Mulgrew, who goes in late on Ilicic.
ILICIC SHOOTS WIDE! That was close to being the goal that settles things. Ilicic shifts the ball on to his left foot and lets rip, but the ball flashes past Gordon's near post. Not far away.
That Fletcher chance was the moment Scotland needed to take if they are to stand any chance of mounting a comeback. They have surely given themselvs too much to do now.
- OffKieran TierneyScotland
- OnSteven FletcherScotland
Strachan is throwing another attacker on. Fletcher comes on for Tierney. He's gone back to two up front.
- OffJames McArthurScotland
- OnRobert SnodgrassScotland
A change for Scotland and Snodgrass comes on. He's been a talisman for the national team before.
FLETCHER SHOULD HAVE SCORED! That was the chance for Scotland to get back on level terms! The ball fell nicely to Fletcher eight yards out, but he sliced his effort over the bar.
Scotland have desperately lost their way in this second half. Let's just remind ourselves that with Slovakia beating Malta, this is a meaningless game for the home side. It doesn't matter to them.
That goal had been coming. Slovenia have been a completely different team in this second half. Scotland haven't had an answer. Surely Strachan needs to make a change here?
- GoalRoman BezjakSlovenia
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Slovenia 2 (72 mins - Roman Bezjak) Scotland 1. Is that the goal to finish off Scotland? The away side don't defend a corner kick well enough, with the ball played back to Bezjak. The sub made no mistake in passing into the net.
ROTMAN SHOOTS OVER! Slovenia create a good shooting opportunity on the edge of the Scotland penalty area, but Rotman leans back and shoots well over Gordon's crossbar.
Scotland have created absolutely nothing in this second half. That wouldn't be so much of a worry if they were still in the lead, but they need a goal otherwise the World Cup dream is over.
How long is Strachan going to wait to change things here? Scotland are second best all over the pitch and are struggling to get out. The decision to take off Martin hasn't worked at all.
- Yellow cardJames McArthurScotland
McArthur picks up a booking and he would miss the first leg of the play-offs should Scotland get there.
WHAT A BALL! That was excellent defending from Tierney. Ilicic whipped a wonderful ball to the back post, but Tierney got his head on the end of it to clear the danger. Crucial.
There's news from the other game in the group, and Slovakia have scored a second goal against Malta. Nemec has found the net. That means Scotland must win this game.
There's no shape to the way Scotland are playing at the moment. Strachan seems to have set this team up even more negatively since the equalising goal. It makes no sense.
PENALTY SHOUT! Just for a moment, it looked like Tierney might have fouled Bezjak inside the penalty area, but the replays show that he got to the ball first. No penalty kick.
I suspect Strachan will need to make another change here. This is not going Scotland's way. They aren't pressing high on the Slovenians when they have the ball. Too passive.
The momentum has drastically shifted in this match. Slovenia are on top in every way and Scotland are struggling to deal with them. They need something to turn things around again.
- Yellow cardRajko RotmanSlovenia
That was a late challenge from Rotman on Bannan and there's a booking.
Scotland are rocking now. Slovenia have come out for this second half with renewed urgency and tempo to their play. They look dangerous every time they come forward, now.
ANOTHER BIG GORDON SAVE! Bezjak has made a real impact for Slovenia, this time striking at the Scotland goal from just inside the box. But Gordon stood up tall to make the stop.
- OffChris MartinScotland
- OnIkechi AnyaScotland
There's the change for Scotland. Anya comes on for Martin.
I'm not sure what Scotland could have done to defend that goal. The freekick delivery into the penalty area was fantastic and the header across goal was good too. Big goal.
- GoalRoman BezjakSlovenia
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Slovenia 1 (53 mins - Roman Bezjak) Scotland 1. Well, there's the equaliser and Scotland are going to have to do this the hard way. Bezjak got in behind the Scotland defence from a freekick and headed past Gordon into the far corner.
It looks like Scotland might be about to make a change here. Anya is getting ready to come on. Who will come off for the away side? Is th injury to Griffiths more serious than we thought?
GORDON MAKES THE SAVE! Perhaps for the first time this evening, Gordon is called into action. Rotman took the shot on about 20 yards out, but the goalkeeper was equal to it.
It's difficult to stress just how big a half this is for Scotland. They are 40 minutes away from making the play-offs for a major tournament for the first time since the early 2000s.
- OffJan RepasSlovenia
- OnRoman BezjakSlovenia
And there's the second change for the hosts...
- OffAljaž StrunaSlovenia
- OnNejc SkubicSlovenia
CORRECTION: Slovenia actually made two changes at the half time interval. Apologies, didn't spot that at first.
It will be interesting to see how Scotland play this half. Do they do what they were doing in the first half, or will they try to take more control of possession in an attempt to see this out?
No changes for either side, and that's significant for Scotland because Griffiths was struggling with an injury at the end of the first half. The Celtic striker is back out on the pitch, though.
- 2nd Half
The second half is under way! Scotland have a 1-0 lead over Slovenia.
What did you make of the first half? Has Strachan got his tactics right? Should Forrest be introduced to give them another outlet on the counter attack? Tweet me your thoughts!
- End of 1st Half
HALF TIME: Slovenia 0-1 Scotland. It was a tense start for Scotland, but they grew into the first half and took the lead through Griffiths. This will do for Strachan's men. This is all they need.
GRIFFITHS INJURY! This could be a real issue for Scotland. Griffiths appears to have picked up an injury and is hobbling over to the touchline to receive some treatment. Calf?
This has been a different sort of performance from Scotland so far. They haven't seen all that much of the ball, but they have been quite happy just to sit back and hit out on the counter.
That goal came at an interesting time for Scotland. The Dark Blues (who are playing in pink this evening) were struggling for momentum. But now they have something to protect.
There was a goal in the other game at pretty much the same time as Griffiths' goal. Nemec has scored for Slovakia to give them a 1-0 lead over Malta. Keeps the pressure on.
So as things stand, with the scorelines in the two games as they are, Scotland would be guaranteed a place in the play-offs. But there's still a long, long way to go here. Plenty of football to be played.
What technique from Griffiths in scoring that goal. He let the ball drop over his shoulder and then struck it first time into the far corner. He made it look so easy, but it wasn't in the slightest.
Well, well, well. There's the goal that puts Scotland in the lead, and how crucial could that be? It wasn't the easiest of chances for Griffiths, but what a finish it was. Scotland are ahead!
- GoalLeigh GriffithsScotland
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Slovenia 0 Scotland 1 (32 mins - Leigh Griffiths). Scotland have a crucial lead! It was an extremely tight angle for Griffiths, but he let the ball drop and angled a strike across the face of goal and into the far corner of the net.
Scotland are looking more and more comfortable on the counter attack. Rather surprisingly, it's actually Bannan who most of those attacks are coming through. He's finding space.
This is turning into a really tense affair. We knew it would be like this, but Scotland have yet to find their groove. The positive side of that is that Slovenia haven't created much themselves.
Scotland come surging forward on the counter attack, with Bannan taking his side about 40 yards up the field. Robertson made the run alongside him and won a throw in high up.
Indeed, Ilicic has been the best player on the pitch in these opening 30 minutes. He's the one at the heart of Slovenia's attacking play. He's giving Scotland plenty to think about.
Slovenia have conceded just three goals in their last eight World Cup qualifiers. They have yet to concede at home. Make no mistake, this is a really tough test for Scotland.
Oblak is, of course, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and so it's rather daunting that to get into the play-offs Scotland will need to find a way past the Atletico Madrid shot-stopper.
Scotland win the corner, with Griffiths whipping a wicked delivery into the penalty area, but Oblak comes off his line to punch clear. The Slovenian keeper surely could have caught that?
This is where someone like Forrest helps out. Of course, the Celtic winger is on the bench tonight. Strachan decided to go for McArthur over Forrest. Was that a wise move?
Martin and Griffiths seem to be working well with each other, but they're both having to make the most of long balls forward. There have been very few runs from midfield to help them out.
This has been a difficult start to the match for Scotland. Their midfield is struggling to control things in the way they did against Slovakia on Thursday night. Haven't taken a grip yet.
Apologies for the sporadic updates from this game up until now. Some technical issues on our end, but hopefully those gremlins have been sorted out. Let's hope, anyway.
Straight at the keeper! Chris Martin is played in on the corner of the box but can't catch his shot quite right and it is comfortably saved by Oblak...
CLOSE! Robertson swings in a cross - it misses everyone but just bends away from the far post...
Scrappy stuff this. Neither team can string more than a few passes together at the moment. Stop. Start.
Nothing comes of it and Leigh Griffiths gets a stern talking to from the ref after some handbags in the box. No booking though...
Sorry for the delay - technical issues. No goals so far however as Scotland, bedecked in their garish pink kit, win a free-kick that they'll pump forward into the box.
So there's some big team news for Scotland. Surprising team news. Strachan has opted to go with two strikers, with Martin coming in to partner Griffiths up top. They're going for it.
TEAM NEWS: Slovenia - Oblak, Cesar, Ilicic, Kurtic, Matavz, Jokic, Mevlja, Rotman, Repas, Verbic, Struna. /// Scotland - Gordon, Tierney, Mulgrew, Berra, Robertson, D.Fletcher, McArthur, Bannan, Phillips, Martin, Griffiths.
