It seems to happen every international game now, but England will remember former player Ron Flowers before the game, who died yesterday. A Wolves legend and fine England defender who was a regular in the pre-1966 generation and was even a late chance to come in for Jack Charlton for the final against West Germany when the Leeds defender was ill the night before.

While the absence of Broja makes things easier for England on paper, Bajrami has three goals in 7 games for Empoli in Italy this year so will have to be watched coming from deep.

Albania have three changes from the side which started eight months ago, Kumballa comes in at centre back for Djimsiti, Trashi is at left wing-back in place of Memolla, Gjasula replaces Laci in midfield, with Bajrami starting in midfield and Broja not even in the squad, we can only presume due to injury.

In the reverse fixture in March, England won 2-0 with Mason Mount grabbing the second.

Also, especially with Declan Rice out, wouldn't it be great to see Jude Bellingham start in midfield? He has such popularity Gareth Southgate but - partly due to the glut of talent he has to choose from - unpopular selections (such as not having Smith Rowe in the squad) will be thrown at him if results ever turn.

So it looks like England are going with Walker, Stones and Maguire as a back three with James and Chilwell as wing-backs. With the greatest respect to James, not selecting Alexander-Arnold when playing wing-backs seems peculiar.
