And there's the full-time whistle! Late onslaught from Costa Rica but Serbie survive and get their campaign off to the perfect start.
- Yellow cardAleksandar PrijovicSerbia
Once again VAR is checking something...
Prijovic looks to fend off Acosta and actually slaps his face... Looks accidental, but the referee goes over to check it... Just a yellow though.
Offside at the death! We're into added time of added time as Colindres is flagged for offside after firing an attempt over.
Oh no! Serbia go on the counter after a Costa Rica corner, but Kostic gets it all wrong when they have a 4 on 1.
Bizarre moment follows as a Costa Rica staff member takes the ball when it goes out for a throw-in to Serbia. Not quite sure what he's trying but it sparks a wee melee. The referee stops as VAR check for any offences...but eventually the game carries on.
Very ambitious attempt from Gamboa 30 yards out, and Stojkovic gets down to make a simple save and eat up some valuable seconds.
Kostic tries his luck from the edge of the area, but his effort flies over the bar.
FIVE minutes added on - not sure where that came from!
- OffAleksandar MitrovicSerbia
- OnAleksandar PrijovicSerbia
Last change for Mitrovic, who looks away for a while as he pretends he doesn't know his number is up. On comes Prijovic.
Mitrovic goes down in the box under pressure from Gonzalez and it's no penalty... initially. VAR time?? Nope... replays show he fell under minimal contact, and it's not deemed worthy of checking on the sidelines.
Worrying for Costa Rica. The clock is ticking towards 90 and they've had little to shout about this half.
- OffDušan TadicSerbia
- OnAntonio RukavinaSerbia
Tadic is off for Serbia, with Rukavina coming on.
Risky defending from Duarte as he attempts a scissor-kick, but he just about gets away with it with Mitrovic breathing down his neck.
Costa Rica reduced to pot-shots from the edge of the area. Campbell sees an effort blocked before another shot is blocked 18 yards out.
OVER! It opens up for Milinkovic-Savic 20 yards out, but he rushes the shot and fires it high and wide of Navas' goal.
CHANCE! Tadic's cross evades Navas, and it somewhat surprises Kostic inside the six-yard box as it ricochets off his shin and away from goal. Gets it all wrong as he looked to turn it in... Replays show Navas gets a vital touch onto it to put Kostic off!
- OffDavid GuzmánCosta Rica
- OnDaniel ColindresCosta Rica
Campbell gets behind Milenkovic, but the Serbia defender turns and chases down the forward to put it out for a corner, which comes to nothing for the Ticos.
Guzman off, Colindres on - their final sub, and that's an attacking switch.
Costa Rica enjoying more of the ball as they look to take the game to Serbia, but on this occasion a Campbell free-kick is headed clear.
- OffAdem LjajicSerbia
- OnFilip KosticSerbia
And it's a like-for-like sub from Serbia too, with Kostic replacing Ljajic for their first change.
Slight surprise to see Urena go off with Costa Rica pushinhg for the equaliser. Not really the time for like-for-like subs, particuarly with Campbell dropping deep to pick up the ball on occasion.
- OffMarcos UreñaCosta Rica
- OnJoel CampbellCosta Rica
WIDE! Good cross from Ivanovic picks out Milinkovic-Savic, but he can't direct his header on goal.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica make a second sub, with Joel Campbell coming on.
Serbia remain on top and will look to extend their one-goal advantage.... You feel if Costa Rica want to repeat their 2014 heroics then they have to take something from this game.
Three free-kicks in four days. The same as the WHOLE of 2014! Wow.
That. Is a goal.
- OffJohan VenegasCosta Rica
- OnChristian BolañosCosta Rica
How do Costa Rica respond? With the game's first change. On comes Bolanos...
- Yellow cardBranislav IvanovicSerbia
Ivanovic gets his name in the book on his record 104th-cap. Gets the ball, but studs were showing...
- GoalAleksandar KolarovSerbia
GOAL! What a fine free-kick from Kolarov!
One of the dead-ball specialists has produced another stunner. Navas has no chance as the Roma left-back curls it in at the near post.
- Yellow cardDavid GuzmánCosta Rica
No arguments from Guzman as he fouls Mitrovic from 25 yards out and finds his name in the book. Kolarov fancies this one...
CHANCE! Mitrovic and Duarte are tussling in the box as the cross comes in. It's Mitrovic who gets his head to it but it goes well wide. He then looks at the referee to protest the pushing around with Duarte.
Dangerous cross from Kolarov, but Calvo does well to get his head to it first and it's a corner for Serbia.
HUGE SAVE! Milinkovic-Savic plays a fine ball over the top and Mitrovic is through on goal, one-on-one with Navas, but he cannot squeeze his effort past the Real Madrid goalkeeper, who makes a vital stop to deny the forward.
What's the new word for 'tekkers'?
Good start from Costa Rica, who are looking to balance the possession stats up somewhat.
- 2nd Half
And we are back. And so are the players. Second 45 is under way - who will break the deadlock?
For all of Serbia's first-half dominance, they failed to record a shot on target...
- End of 1st Half
An intriguing first half comes to an end without any goals.
Serbia have enjoyed two-thirds of possession, but are just missing out with their final ball. Costa Rica meanwhile arguably had the best chance of the half, but Gonzalez sent a free header over the bar after 12 minutes.
Two minutes added on...
WHAT AN EFFORT! Pure technique from Milinkovic-Savic as he meets a cross with an overhead kick. Navas gets down to his right to keep it out with a good save.... The offside flag went up in fact, but A. neither Milinkovic-Savic or Navas were to know, and B. it wasn't actually offside!
JUST WIDE! It's a smart run from Calvo out wide as he carries the ball along the 18-yard line, but he drags his effort wide of the near post with his weaker (right) foot.
Costa Rica more than holding their own this half, despite Serbia controlling possession. The Ticos earn themselves another corner, but Serbia clear the danger.
OVER! Urena tries his luck from 20 yards out, but it's a wild attempt and won't trouble Stojkovic.
Acosta came out of that collision worse off, but after receiving some treatment, he's back on.
Kolarov stands over this one... it's a dangerous in-swinger too but Navas does well to make a flying punch.
Will be a slight break in plau after Tosic and Acosta collide in the air.
Tadic seeing plenty of the ball out on the right for Serbia, and he earns a free-kick near the corner flag.
Milinkovic-Savic trending in 3... 2... 1...
The Lazio midfielder has started this game very brightly.
Half-an-hour gone and it's Serbia who are certainly on top. They've come close on a couple of occasions, but just are lacking that kilelr final ball. Only takes a seconmd for all that to change.
Serbia knocking on the door but it's just not falling for them when it matters. A high ball drops down to Mitrovic in the Costa Rica box, but Calvo does well to get the block in and deny the Newcastle forward, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Fulham.
OFFSIDE! Big chance for Serbia as a ball over the top finds Milinkovic-Savic, but his effort is too close to Navas. The offside is given though - looked a tight call.
Ljajic sneaks in behind the Costa Rica defence and crosses the ball in from the byline, but he gets too much on it and Costa Rica clear the danger.
- Yellow cardFrancisco CalvoCosta Rica
Late tackle from Calvo, who goes in heavily on Tadic and picks up the game's first yellow.
Serbia look threatening from all angles. Tadic and Ivanovic down the right, Ljajic and Kolarov down the left. Milinkovic-Savic behind Mitrovic up front. Danger, danger, everywhere.
Milinkovic-Savic has featured in gossip columns for the past 12 months, and now it's his chance to shine on the world stage.
Real Madrid, Man Utd, Juventus all liniked... plus plenty more. If Lazio are willing to sell, they'll hope he continues in this vein so they can get some serious dollar for the 23-year-old.
Wise defending from Milenkovic. A pass splits the Serbia defence and it looks as though Urena could be through on goal, but Milenkovic gets there first and does well to clear.
Down the other end Ivanovic sends in a low cross but Navas palms it away. Brilliant start to this game. Both teams going for it.
SAVE! And now a chance down the other end... Mitrovic works himself some space 20 yards out, but his effort is deflected and straight at Navas.
Costa Rica play the first corner short, and.... end up winning another corner!
OVER! It's played short again, but Guzman gets the cross in this time and Gonzalez gets his back-post header all wrong. Perhaps mistimed the jump as it flies well over the bar.
Costa Rica just take the sting out of Serbia's lively start. And now the Ticos have themselves a corner...
Serbia with plenty of the ball early on.... Kolarov fancies his chances from 25 yards out, but drags the effort wide of Navas' goal.
Promising, end-to-end start as Tadic earns a corner for Serbia. Already the third of the game.
Ljajic's cross evades everyone however, and Costa Rica go on to earn a free-kick.
Costa Rica go down the other end and Ruiz plays in Urena, but he's out wide when attempting a shot on goal, and it's out for a corner... which is eventually cleared...
SAVE! Another cross comes in for Costa Rica, and it's Gonzalez who gets his head to it, but it's straight down the throat of Stojkovic.
A sign of Serbia's intent right from kick-off. Ivanovic sends in a terrific ball from deep, and though Mitrovic's touch is heavy, they have themselves a corner...
It's a good cross from Tadic, but Mitrovic's header does not have enough bite and it's cleared away on the line.

And the first Group E game is under way in Samara. Mighty fine looking stadium this one, too.
Right. Who you got?
Dangerously going to make a prediction. 3-1 to Serbia with a Mitrovic double. If right, I'll refer to this again later. If drastically wrong, I may well delete this comment...

Can Costa Rica replicate their dreamy run to the quarter-finals four years ago?
They're up against it in Group E - but few of us will forget how they had Italy, Uruguay and England for company in 2014.
