And there's the full-time whistle! Iran claim their first World Cup win in 20 years.

Some of their players fall to the ground in ecstasy, while Morocco players head to the floor in agony.

What a dramatic finale...

GOAAAAAAALLLL! In the fifth minute of added time. And I think it's an own goal!!!

Indeed it is...

Hajsafi sends in the cross and it's an awful, awful defending header from Bouhaddouz, who turns it into his own net at the near post. Heartache for Morocco, but what a moment for Iran!

90+4'

Late chance for Iran as they win a free-kick out wide... Ghoddos kisses the ball before handing it to Hajsafi to cross...

Some antics going down on the touchline but it's difficult to see what happened there. Renard and Quieroz shake hands and make up, however.

90'

All those stoppages have produced SIX minutes of added time. The torture.

89'

Pathetic. Utterly pathetic from Rezaeian who rolls around about five or six times on the floor after going to ground. He earns a free-kick, but it was in his own half. Did I say pathetic?

87'

There was late drama with Uruguay-Egypt earlier today. More of the same here? Wouldn't bet on it...

Cramp for Jahanbakhsh. He signals the sub sign... so perhaps not cramp... All very confusing.

Final sub for Morocco...

81'

SAVE! The Morocco fans reawaken as their side finally come close in this second half. It falls for Ziyech on the edge of the area, but Beiranvand flies to his right to tip the effort away.

79'

And that, too, is his afternoon over. On comes Montazeri.

78'

I don't quite know how to summarise this second half. So little has happened, and now we have another pause in play as Ebrahimi receives some treatment.

Renard did not have a sub ready to replace Amrabat, but now he's making a double sub... Sofyan Amrabat comes on for his brother!

But the second sub will wait for now...

74'

Amrabat is struggling to stand. Perhaps a touch of concussion and though he wants to come back on, there is no way he should be allowed.

Quite rightly, the medics sit him back down - that will be his game over. But no sub as yet to replace him.

72'

Looks like a real problem for Amrabat, who has gone down on the sideline and looks very dazed on the ground.

70'

Jahanbakhsh dances past Achraf before darting into the box, but his cross is turned out for Iran's second corner of the game... which is headed away by Belhanda.

Could Taremi offer that spark? It's Iran who blink first, and on comes the striker for captain Masoud, who duly passes the armband to Hajsafi.

66'

Needs. A. Spark.

64'

Ziyech holds his arms up, asking the referee what he's done wrong as Hafsafi goes down with a scream near the corner flag. Made a meal of that, and the referee didn't buy it.

62'

El Kaabi earns a corner for Morocco, and it's Boussoufa who goes over to take... his ball in is punched away by Beianvand, however.

60'

An hour gone, and 15 minutes of this second half have passed with Morocco offering little threat in attack. A far cry from the opening 10 minutes, which seem an age away from what we are watching now.

58'

Lacking bite now this game. Just needs someone to take it by the scruff of the neck. Or a change in approach.

56'

Not sure where those 10 minutes have just gone. Nothing to report on really as El Kaabi goes off for some treatment for Iran. Must-win for these sides you'd have to say. A draw would play out very nicely for Spain and Portugal.

-

Pass. Pass. Pass.

52'

Morocco just a tad lucky to get away with it there, as Iran go on the counter with Morocco looking horribly exposed, but Azmoun's wayward pass hands possession back to the North African team.

50'

Morocco: Pass, pass, Amrabat cross, repeat.

Another ball in from the Watford man, and this time he picks out Harit, who fires wildly wide of the goal. Closer to the corner flag, in fact.

As close as either side came in the first half...but Azmoun couldn't quite get it out from underneath him.

PEEP!

The ball is rolling in this second half at St Petersburg's mightily impressive stadium - will either side light it up with the opening goal?

  • End of 1st Half
HT

An interesting half, but it remains goalless.

Morocco impressed early on, but Iran grew into the game, with Azmoun squandering the best chance of the half.

After a 45 minutes of scoping each other out, the second half promises to be just as fascinating.

45'

OVER! Free-kick some 35 yards out for Iran, and Hafsafi absolutely leathers one a couple yards over the bar. Not a bad attempt.

TWO minutes added on.

43'

SAVE! Messi he is not!! Azmoun is played through on goal... He hesitates a little and takes the ball a tad too wide, and he's off balance as he strikes low on goal, with Munir getting down to keep it out.

41'

Azmoun is back on the pitch and running freely again. Nicknamed the Iranian Messi, so interested to see what makes him so goat-like.

39'

All smiles. Must have been before the horns.... I can't drop it, I'm sorry, not until we have a goal.

Carlos Queiroz, Head coach of Iran greets Herve Renard, Head coach of Morocco prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia group B match between Morocco and Iran at Saint Petersburg Stadium on June 15, 2018 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
37'

This game has lost its way truth by told. Morocco certainly dictated proceedings early on, but it's just meandering towards half-time now.

Slight worry for Iran with Azmoun down, but out comes the magic spray.

-
33'

Cross comes in for Iran, but the ball escapes Cheshmi after he appears to bring it down with his arm. Perhaps, the shoulder, just.

31'

SAVE! Nice play from Harit, who receives the ball from Achraf before darting into the area, but his curled, low effort is wall saved by Beiranvand.

28'

Morocco's bright start has faded away somewhat, but Iran are offering little in return.

26'

Poor shot from Azmoun. Who chests the ball down and attempts to shoot on the turn. It goes out for a throw-in...

Down the other end, Belhanda tries his luck from distance, but it's blocked by Cheshmi.

24'

Past the midway stage of the first half and it has been comfortable for Morocco, but they haven't got anything to show for it. The vuvuzela's relentlessly rumble on...

22'

Iran go on the counter and it's Ansarifard who gets in behind the Morocco defence, but he's out wide and his cross is a poor one which is easily cleared.

20'

BIG CHANCE! How have Morocco not scored?! It's pinball in the Iran box, and it's Belhanda who sees his shot blocked before Beiranvand who gets down well to deny Benatia before it's cleared for a corner - which comes to nothing.

-

Sigh, indeed

*slowly turns the volume down, further and further*

17'

Iran have offered little so far. They qualified for this tournament with ease, going undefeated in 18 games and conceding five. No doubt it's a step up for them, and there's still Spain and Portugal to come...

14'

An enjoyable start to the game, but a few too many horns being sounded in the crowd. Horrible flashbacks to 2010.

12'

A rare foray forward from Iran but out comes Munir to claim a cross and he sets Morocco on their way. But it's decent defending from Rezaeian, who clears for Iran.

  • Masoud Shojaei

Into the 10th minute and we already have a yellow card. Masoud's studs catch the back of Boussoufa's foot... Looked nastier in real time, but a fair booking.

8'

JUST WIDE! It's another chance for Morocco. A long ball is headed down by Iran defender Cheshmi and into the path of El Kaabi, who takes a touch before volleying wide from 18 yards out.

6'

Renard will be pleased with Morocco's start so far. His side are dominating in these early stages, and this time it's Belhanda who goes close, but he cannot direct a header on goal.

4'

Almost the perfect corner routine from Morocco as it's rolled along the ground to Ziyech 18 yards out, but he fluffs his lines with an air-kick. A cross is then headed out for a corner but goalkeeper Beiranvand comes out to punch.

2'

WIDE! Bright start from Morocco. A cross is half-cleared and falls to Harit on the edge of the area, but his first-time volley bobbles wide of the mark.

KICK-OFF

Huge stadium. Some 67,000 or so - plenty of empty seats too. Perhaps not the ideal game for a stadium bigger than the Emirates.

Nevertheless, Morocco get the game going...

20 years later...

15.40

Defensive masterclass?

Uruguay snuck past Egypt at the death, and I’m afraid to say the stats suggest this could be a similarly cagey affair.

Morocco did not concede a single goal in the third round of African qualifying.

Meanwhile, Iran kept nine straight clean sheets in Asian qualifying – conceding twice in their last game against Syria. Shocking.

Can only hope they cancel each other out, if that even makes any sense.

15.30

Britain's Best Walks with Julia Bradbury has come to an end on ITV, match report on its way. Decent shift from Julia on the Isle of Man, 7/10.

But finally, the football is back - after a 15-minute gap between BBC and ITV. Didn't know what to do with myself.

15.23

You could say it’s the starter before the main event, but rule Morocco and Iran out at your peril. Should one side take all three points this afternoon, and either Spain or Portugal lose this evening, then the make-up of Group B becomes that bit more interesting… Therefore, it’s a big old game at Saint Petersburg Stadium – and it’ll get under way at 4pm BST.

TEAMS

MOROCCO: Munir, Amrabat, Benatia, Saïss, Achraf, El Ahmadi, Belhanda, Harit, Boussoufa, Ziyech, El Kaabi.

IRAN: Beiranvand, Rezaeian, Pouraliganji, Cheshmi, Hajsafi, Ebrahimi, Masoud, Jahanbakhsh, Ansarifard, Amiri, Azmoun.
