Sling when you're winning

England manager Gareth Southgate said he will have to tone down his goal celebrations after dislocating his shoulder while having a run during a day off on Wednesday. The 47-year-old had his arm in a sling as he addressed his players at their nightly team briefing at their World Cup base in Repino alongside the Baltic coast. "I might not be celebrating any goals as athletically in future!" Southgate told the FA website. "The doc has made it clear that punching the air is not an option."
Southgate's misfortune also led to a couple of inevitable back-page headlines...
Paper Round's view: As long as he can still squeeze into that lucky waistcoat, all will be well with England fans.

Bale's Arsenal snub

Gareth Bale is looking for assurances from Real Madrid over the amount he will play next season, before he commits to the club. According to quotes from his agent, Jonathan Barnett, carried in The Mail, The Welshman, who scored an incredible bicycle kick in the Champions League final, is said to be happy in Spain but would not rule out a move if he doesn't get enough opportunities to win the Ballon d'Or next year. Barnett added that his client 'more likely to go to the moon, than Arsenal'.
Paper Round's view: Some excellent posturing from Barnett here. He knows that pretty much any club on the planet would take Bale - if they could afford him - following his goal in the Champions League final. He might even get a pay rise for Bale. But the key question is: will new Real Madrid boss, Julen Lopetegui, guarantee him the time in the team that he craves?

Loftus-Cheek warns Chelsea

A similar stand-off between player and club is emerging between Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Chelsea, according to The Mirror. The midfielder, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, says he may have to consider his future at Stamford Bridge if he does not get more game time. The 22-year-old said: That’s the key for me next season, regarding where I end up. I want to play. I want to play as much as I can.Palace and West Ham are said to be keen if he does decide to leave permanently.
Paper Round's view: Fair enough. He's set for his first England start on the back of some excellent form for Palace and England. He should certainly be pushing for a spot in the Blues' team but a major problem will be the manager. Antonio Conte is reportedly on his way out of the club and with his replacement yet to be confirmed, Loftus-Cheek may have to make a snap decision after the World Cup.

Blatter is back

Speaking of the Chelsea manager's job, we bring you news of that, too. The Sun reports that Maurizio Sarri has taken another step towards Stamford Bridge. The story goes that the Napoli manager has been recruiting Giovanni Martusciello - the former Genoa and Empoli midfielder, who is working as the technical collaborator’s at Inter Milan - as he begins to build his backroom team, which will also include Gianfranco Zola.

Paper Round's view: It is a poorly kept secret that Antonio Conte is on his way out of the club. Although Sarri has been mentioned for a while, nothing is ever certain about Chelsea until the announcement is made.
