The 2022 World Cup in Qatar kicked off on November 20 and will run until December 18. We have all the information you need to know about the tournament, including the fixtures, schedule, when the games are being played, where to get alcohol, and which countries are going to compete for the biggest prize in world football, including England, Wales, Argentina, Germany, France and Brazil.
The 2022 Qatar World Cup is underway, the first time the tournament has been held in the Middle East and the first time a World Cup has been played outside of the usual summer dates.
European, South American and other domestic football leagues have come to a halt for around six weeks as 32 countries compete to win the biggest prize in football.
The tournament kicked off on November 20 with Ecuador downing hosts Qatar 2-0. Elsewhere, England made a hugely impressive start with a 6-2 demolition of Iran, Saudi Arabia hit back to stun Lionel Messi and Argentina, while defending champions France recovered from an early hiccup to cruise past Australia.
After the group stage there will be the first knockout round for 16 teams, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals, third-place playoff and the final, on December 18.

Tickets to the World Cup are bought through FIFA’s official website, which requires registration.
There were three windows to purchase tickets with the last window closing in August.

Can I drink alcohol at the 2022 Qatar World Cup?
Alcohol is legal in Qatar, but public consumption is forbidden.
You must be 21 or over to buy alcohol, typically from licensed hotel restaurants and bars.
There is a one-off licence in Qatar, which requires a permit.
It was initially confirmed by FIFA that alcohol would be sold at stadiums before matches, but that policy was scrapped just two days before the start of the tournament.
Alcohol is being sold at fan zones, which can accommodate 40,000 people.
