So, Vettel is on pole for the Australian Grand Prix after a superb qualifying display! Hamilton joins him on the front row with Webber in third. Button follows ahead of Alonso, Petrov, Rosberg, Massa, Kobayashi and Buemi!
Hamilton gets onto the front row right at the death at the expense of Webber!
Alonso moves up to fifth only after a poor end to the lap. And the top four is still intact.
Rosberg jumps into fifth while Alonso looks good in the first two sectors...
Yellow flag is out as Massa spins on his way out of the pits and ends up facing the wrong way!
After the Red Bulls come the McLarens, followed by Rosberg and Buemi at the moment.
Webber then puts in a 1:24.395 to go second. At the moment it's a Red Bull front row!
Hamilton 1:24.501 to go top provisionally. But Vettel eclipses that with a stunning 1:23.529! What a lap from the world champion!
Hamilton locks his front wheel up but that shouldn't affect his time too much.
The temperature is still relatively low out on track.
So here we go for the final shootout, which will be contested by Vettel, Hamilton, Webber, Button, Alonso, Kobayashi, Petrov, Massa, Rosberg and Buemi.
Also failing to make it into the shootout are Alguersuari, Perez, Di Resta, Maldonado Sutil and Barrichello, meaning Buemi makes it!
Schumacher fails to get into the top 10... despite putting in his fastest time on his final lap. He remains 11th!
Sutil spins but somehow manages to keep his car out of the wall! And that means he will drop out...
Schumacher drops out of the top 10 as Petrov storms into sixth!
Buemi and Alguersuari are the two surprise names in the top 10 at the moment. Otherwise, it's the Red Bulls, the McLarens, Mercedes and Ferraris.
Rosberg flies round a corner and goes very close to clipping the wall... he just about gets away with it!
Webber's not in danger through and he goes quick to clock a 1:24.658 to slip into second place.
Vettel posts a 1:24.090! Seven drivers still to post a time, Mark Webber is one of them.
The soft tyres are degrading badly out there and they're leaving plenty of debris on the track. Vettel looking good once again now.
Hamilton is the fastest man in sector one so far... 1:25.522 and he's fastest overall in this Q2 session.
Webber and Vettel are back into the pits, without having set a lap time.
Barrichello makes an error at turn 3 and he spins out onto gravel! That's the end of his qualification session and he'll most likely now start from 17th on the grid.
Alonso and Massa are back out with a new set of the soft tyres on their cars - their second new set of the session.
Here we go! Q2 is underway and another seven cars will drop out in the next 15 minutes.
1:25.296 is the time to beat, set by world champion Sebastian Vettel.
So too do Kovalainen, Trulli, Glock, d'Ambrosio and the Hispania pair of Liuzzi and Karthikeyan. Q2 coming right up...
Massa is out of the woods as he jumps to 11th. It's Heidfeld who will miss out on Q2.
Heidfeld too is struggling and on the brink of dropping out!
Vettel still sits on top as Massa struggles - he's currently in 17th and he needs to pull something out of the bag quickly!
Kobayashi is absolutely flying! Less so Liuzzi, as a part of his car goes flying across the track!
Kobayashi storms into third! That's a surprise as he breaks into the upper echelons!
The Hispanias are really struggling, a good two seconds behind the drivers who currently sit at the back.
Schumacher nevertheless goes fifth, ahad of Alguersuari and Ferrari duo Alonso and Massa.
Schumacher looks like he's struggling to get to grips with the DRS...
Ten minutes to go of Q1 and Mark Webber goes fourth behind Button in third. Vettel has improved his time to 1:25.296.
Most of the frontrunner are using the harder of the Pirelli tyres...
And Vettel's Red Bull team-mate soon clocks the second fastest lap of the session. Hamilton in third for the time being.
Heidfeld runs off at turn six as Vettel puts in a 1:26.657 to go top.
Both Hispanias have taken to the track after the disappointment of the practice sessions.
Petrov posts a 1:29.463 - a solid enough time to get us under way!
Here goes Petrov on his first lap. He's one of 10 cars out on track at the moment.
Here we go! Q1 is under way!
