Looks like a problem for Bianchi late on with brake dust coming from his Marussia.
Hamilton told by his engineer to push late on to see how those tyres fare but he has to back off with Webber the quicker man behind him.
Raikkonen also done for the day. He doesn’t like that soft pedal.
Webber still going for it on the medium tyre and going close to the wall. No holding back from the Aussie late on.
@WilliamsF1Team: Longer runs for both cars now to end the session to see how the tyres perform
Maldonado runs wide at turn 1. The Williams currently 14th quickest.
And Button also pits with that gearbox issue. Session over for the McLaren man too.
Di Resta’s session is over and he won’t be back out again so a mixed day for the Scot.
Button complaining that he tried to select seventh gear and it went into neutral. It’s reported as a gearbox sensor issue. Not good!
So with ten minutes remaining there will be no change in the times. It’s Alonso from Grosjean, Hamilton, Webber and Rosberg.
Raikkonen’s problem was down to the brake pedal being too soft, according to the Finn.
Vettel staying out on the mediums and runs wide at the hairpin.
Mercedes staying out longer than the Red Bulls and running consistently in the 1:19s. Looking good.
So the times look set fair and Alonso should remain quickest now.
A replay shows Raikkonen locking up and cutting through the chicane. He’s currently 11th quickest.
The rain isn’t heavy enough yet to see the end of dry running as Hamilton persists with the super softs.
Webber’s engineer reporting light rain at the final chicane and pit straight.
Hamilton and Rosberg seem to be a second off the Red Bulls. Perhaps running heavier fuel loads and seeing how long those tyres can last.
Massa back on the mediums but locks up and runs wide.
Every car now back on the circuit on a mixture of compounds.
Not a lot of movement on the timesheets. Still Alonso, Hamilton, Grosjean.
Rosberg on the super softs but well off the pace. Most cars settling into long run evaluation.
A few more drops of rain in the last few minutes but the track certainly still looks bone dry.
Correction, it appears it’s some kind of fuel pick-up problem. We’ll wait and see.
Paul di Resta’s car is being taken apart by his mechanics. Apparently a gearbox issue. Not a huge problem and he should be out again.
Almost every car in the pits making set-up tweaks for the final half hour.
So with half an hour of practice remaining, the order is Alonso, Hamilton, Grosjean, Webber, Rosberg, Massa, Vettel.
Grosjean now third fastest with a 1:15.083.
@MercedesAMGF1: With 34 minutes to go in #FP2, both guys back in the pits. Lewis P2 1.12.830 (23L), Nico P4 1.15.249 (23L)
Button has now gone out on the super softs. What can he wring out of them?
WEATHER WATCH: The rain is more like a drizzle but is could intensify just before the end of the session.
Alonso now the quickest man on the circuit with a 1:14.818.
A few spots of rain starting to fall so there’s that 20% chance!
Despite his apparent tyre woes, Rosberg goes third quickest.
Of the big hitters, Button and Grosjean still yet to try the super softs.
Rosberg being told his rear tyres are too hot and his fronts are getting cold.
Di Resta also on super softs but only 9th.
A belter from Hamilton and he goes quickest with a 1:15.006 just as Alonso bolts on the same compound and exits the pits. Getting interesting now.
Hamilton out on the super softs. This will be interesting.
Well the Red Bulls are trading fastest laps. Webber quickest once again with a 1:15.212.
Only the Red Bulls, Raikkonen and Perez on super softs.
Webber’s stay at the top was short lived as Vettel usurps him with a 1:15.280s
Webber flying and goes quickest with a 1:15.320. Red Bulls now 1-2.
The super softs working out a second quicker at the moment.
Perez also goes out on the super softs. It looks a bit misty but no sign of rain. Vettel goes quickest with a 1:15.378.
Sutil absolutely clatters over the kerbing on the final corner as Vettel also dons the super softs.
And now Vergne bolts on the supersoft tyre.
Hamilton in the pits and mechanics are hard at work on his car.
A good final sector from Di Resta sees him go second fastest. He then pits.
Massa weaving around, trying to get extra heat into those Pirellis.
Lots of understeer from Button through the exit to turn 2. That McLaren still looks a bit of a handful.
Hamilton improves his P1 time with a 1:15.620s.
Rosberg goes close the wall of champions but that’s the ideal line! Who dares wins...
A big lock up into the final chicane from Van der Garde. Clearly not enough heat in those tyres just yet!
So half an hour in, Hamilton heads Massa, Rosberg and Di Resta.
Van der Garde is the first driver out on the super softs.
Rosberg being told his tyre temperatures are still too low as Hamilton goes quickest with a 1:15.702.
A move from Hamilton. He improves from P8 to P4.
Almost everyone has changed to the medium compound. Only Bottas and Sutil remain on the prototypes.
That was on the medium tyres most of the drivers are still on. Massa still quickest.
Yes replays confirm he spun. Yellow flags momentarily out.
Mark Webber has stopped at turn 6 but managed to get himself going. He must have had a moment.
Still no victims for the famous wall as yet! Don’t expect it to stay that way all weekend though.
A great save from Alonso who gets it wrong over the curb but catches his car just before going into the wall of champions!
And Massa now goes fastest despite coming mightily close to brushing the wall!
Massa goes second quickest, comfortably his best effort of the day. Ferrari yet to show their true colours.
@OfficialSF1Team: Both cars back in the pits. #FP2 nose change for #Guti and rear wing change for #Hulk #pushpush
Vettel has gone out on the regular medium tyre for only his third lap.
And Paul di Resta moves back on top with a 1:16.382. Remember this is Force India’s 100th race start.
Sutil goes second quickest from Hamilton, Alonso and Raikkonen. Webber still quickest.
And now Rosberg locks up at the hairpin. That won’t help his prototype tyres.
Webber goes faster still despite locking up slightly and running wide. Maldonado cuts the chicane.
Cars appear to be struggling for grip as Webber goes nearly half a second faster.
Indeed it does as Raikkonen goes quickest with a 1:16.979.
Di Resta back on top of the times from Rosberg and Webber. All will change quickly though.
A replay shows Hamilton heading straight on before turning into a corner. Vergne also cuts a corner.
Lewis Hamilton says he’s struggling to get heat into these prototype tyres.
Webber sets the early benchmark from Raikkonen, Button and Grosjean.
Weather update: there is a 20% chance of showers towards the end of the session.
A groundhog crossed the track just before the start of practice. Those animals take their lives into their own hands – fingers crossed they’ll be okay!
Every car bar Van der Garde has started on the Kevlar belt development tyre.
Esteban Gutierrez leads a gaggle of cars out onto the circuit.
The pitlane is open and the session is underway!

No rain expected in FP2 so this should be a truer reflection going into Saturday.
