Hamilton: Mercedes move best of my life

Lewis Hamilton has hailed his move from McLaren to Mercedes as the best decision of his life and Formula 1 career following his 51st grand prix victory in Mexico.

Hamilton's win put him joint-second with Alain Prost on the all-time list, albeit still 40 shy of Michael Schumacher's record tally of 91.

Since joining Mercedes ahead of the 2013 season Hamilton has scored 29 wins, taking back-to-back championships in 2014-15, while McLaren has not won since the '12 season finale.

Hamilton said: "It definitely feels very surreal right now.

"It doesn't feel like I've 51 wins, I don't know why. That was an incredible target to get to [for Prost].

"He had 51 wins, that's a lot of wins, and to think Michael has 91, that's mindblowing.

"Weekend in weekend out the team and I continue to prove it was the right decision to come here, and the best decision of my life and my career."

Hamilton trails team-mate Nico Rosberg by 19 points with two races remaining this year, with Rosberg able to seal the crown next time out in Brazil.

"I'm not focusing on the championship right now," said Hamilton.

"I'm just focused on these last two races, on doing my best, because I know when I'm at my best then things like the win in Mexico can happen.

"I know I've never won in Brazil, but there's nothing particular about there why I've not won.

"At McLaren I had one year when I could have, but I was taken out by [Nico] Hulkenberg [in 2012].

"Last year and the year before Nico [Rosberg] was exceptionally quick, and last year I was exceptionally close [to pole], off by 0.07s. I lost that in a gear-shift up the hill.

"Who knows? Third time lucky this year maybe."

Asked whether he felt there was anything he could do to somehow put Rosberg off, he replied: "No, not really.

"I was quite a bit quicker than him [in Mexico], and that's all I can do is just turn up with great pace.

"I'll just generally do my talking on the track."
