We will let you know as soon as it becomes apparent whether today's scheduled qualifying session goes ahead.

04:01

There we go. A very disappointing third practice session comes to an end. Understandably it was uneventful as no one wanted to risk crashes under these trecherous conditions.

03:58

Complaining, understandably, about rivers on the track Hamilton returns to the pits.

03:56

Lewis Hamilton is out on the track and judging by his driving wishes he wasn't.

03:53

With surface water building and everywhere no cars are out on the track.

03:51

It looks increasingly likely that qualifying will be delayed to Sunday morning now.

03:49

Kubica is back in the pits now. Credit to the hardy crowd who have come out in big numbers to watch this today.

03:46

Buemi spins but manages to keep control of the car. Difficult to see many others heading out now. That said, Kubica has just gone out there.

03:44

Buemi is now out on the track. As the storm continues there is concern that the qualifying session will not take place.

03:39

No cars are on the course now as the rain gets heavier. Hamilton is heard to utter that there is no point going out again. Just over twenty minutes remain now.

03:36

Wisely Alguersauri returns to the pits after setting the benchmark time.

03:35

Any chance of improving his time go as Alguersauri nearly loses control at the Dunlop Curve. The unrelenting rain continues to pour.

03:33

Button returns to the pits after a solitary lap but Alguersauri continues for another lap improving his time to 1m55.902s.

03:32

Alguersauri still having a lot of problems records the first time of 1m58.016s. Glock even more circumspect is ten seconds slower.

03:26

Hamilton is out on the track and like Button continues for a second lap. Alguersauri also is set to go out for a third time.

03:22

The young Spaniard reports that there's a lot of problems with the wet track and wisely returns to the pits.

03:19

Jaime Alguersuari is the only man on the track at present and is beginning a timed lap.

03:18

With the rain increasing if anything Glock and Hulkenberg have returned to the pits.

03:13

Button returns to the pits as Lewis Hamilton gets ready to head out.

03:12

Button continues for a second, quicker lap of the track.

03:11

Webber and Schumacher have done precautionary laps before returning to the pits, Alonso and Button are having a gentle tour of the track now.

03:07

Kobayashi and Barichello both among the ten drivers on the track.

03:04

As you'd expect the cars are all out on wet tyres. Massa has joined the early drivers on the track.

03:01

We're underway and Jaime Alguersuari is the first driver out on the track.

02:59

We're just about to start what could be a tumultuous hour on a track with a lot of surface water.

02:55

As expected the rain is falling down so don't expect the times we saw yesterday. This session will be all about avoiding the kind of accident Lewis Hamilton had in the first free practice and making preparations for the qualifying session later today.

02:51

Welcome to our coverage of the third free practice ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuki Circuit. Will Red Bull continue their dominance?
