Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton claimed his third pole-position at Silverstone to give himself an outstanding chance of victory at his home grand prix.

Lewis Hamilton edged out team-mate Nico Rosberg with an impressive lap of 1:32.248 on his first run in Q3, finishing 0.113 seconds ahead.
With neither driver improving on their second attempts, Hamilton secured his seventh pole position of the season.
Rosberg complained of a lack of front grip on his final run but there was a lack of significant improvement throughout the field.
Hamilton said: "It is a special day, special to get pole in front of the fans. They really do motivate me. It hasn't been the smoothest of weekends in terms of balance. 'We made a change to the car for qualifying and when we got to Q3 I was able to go for it. I am incredibly happy and my brother is here as well which makes it special.
"My previous wins were fortunate because I started outside pole. It is the flags and banners that make this race special. They create the atmosphere and buzz, I look out the corner of my eye when I start and finish my lap and know they are there."

One driver to improve was Felipe Massa who beat team-mate Valtteri Bottas to third place, with Williams locking out the second row ahead of Ferrari.
Kimi Raikkonen will start from fifth ahead of Sebastian Vettel, as the German has struggled with his Ferrari in high speed corners throughout the weekend so far, most notably running wide at Copse on numerous occasions.
Copse was the focus of the stewards' attentions throughout the session as drivers had their times deleted if they went off track with all four wheels.

Daniel Ricciardo was the only driver to suffer in Q3, with his final time erased which dropped him from seventh to tenth place.
Daniil Kvyat was promoted to seventh as a result ahead of his team-mate's error, with Carlos Sainz eighth and Nico Hulkenberg ninth in the updated Force India.
Honda-powered McLaren's miserable season continued with Spain's Fernando Alonso qualifying 17th and Jenson Button 18th in his home grand prix.
Button, who has just four world championship points, said: "It’s tough, really tough today, especially in front of the home crowd. You forget the position that you’re in every time you get into the car – especially in front of the home crowd. Because even if the public and fans know our situation, you still always hope for more at your home grand prix."
