Thanks for joining us for a dramatic, rain-soaked qualifying. No doubt we can expect more of the same in the race tomorrow - the action starts at 9am... unless the track is under water once again, of course. See you then!

-

LEWIS HAMILTON ON POLE! The Mercedes driver equals Jim Clark's British record of pole positions in F1, with 33. That record has stood since 1964!

-

Rosberg only third as he crosses the line - and Lewis Hamilton is on pole position for the second race running!

-

Magnusson doesn't improve his time either, Button comes into the pits after a poor one.. but here's Rosberg...

-

Raikkonen crosses only 7th quickest - missed chance.

-

Hamilton comes off the track on turn four - he won't improve either!

-

Huge miscalculation for Vettel - no improvement for Vettel, who waited too long to get on the gas.

1'

Still the same sequence at the top - Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, Rosberg. All except Vettel get over the line for one more flying lap!

2'

Hamilton comes into the pits - Rosberg queing behind him. Both will cross the line for their final flying laps just as the clock runs down. Both men on full wet tyres - rain starting to get heavier once more.

3'

Cars coming in and out for one last set of fresh tyres - none of the teams quite knows where the crossover point is with the 2014 wet tyres, which are far better this season on semi-dry tracks than they've ever been before.

3'

Kimi Raikkonen being told to stay out on the track, but he's grumbling on the radio that his rear tyres are goners.

4'

Huge McLaren gamble - and it could work out well, as Hamilton's next flying lap is a quarter of a second slower than his best. Rosberg goes off at turn seven in his effort - and he'll have to trash that lap.

5'

Button is cruising round carefully, keeping his car smooth and slow, but up to temperature - he's convinced that his intermediates will allow him to steal a march on the field...

6'

Alonso crosses the line - and goes second - but now Vettel crosses the line too- and he's second quickest now instead! Just 0.055 behind Hamilton!

7'

Hamilton in with a 1:59.431, Rosberg second quickest - but nearly a second down.

8'

Raikkonen will be the first man to set a time here - and it's a 2:01.218, so sure to be usurped imminently. Vergne and Hamilton are about to cross the line...

9'

Jenson Button comes into the pits as well - and he's putting fresh intermediates on!? Throwing caution to the wind, and why not? The McLarens must gamble to get in the top six mix, you'd think.

10'

Raikkonen seemingly doesn't agree - he's out there and setting a time.

11'

Magnusson gets onto the radio and comes straight back in to the pits - "still too wet for intermediates" he tells them.

12'

Q2 gets under way! Most cars on the wet tyres, but Kimi Raikkonen and Kevin Magnusson taking their chances on intermediates.

-

Massa comes round to cross the line for his final flying lap - but it's not enough, and he ends up 13th. That brief gamble with intermediates cost him the time to squeeze another lap out - he'll not be happy.

-

Vergne knocks Kvyat out of the top 10 - Kvyat only up there for about 10 seconds before losing his spot once more!

-

Bottas comes up 4/10 short; but Kvyat fires himself into the top 10! He puts Gutierrez out.

-

Q2's clock runs down, Bottas, Grosjean and Kvyat among those fighting to get the elusive top 10 spot.

0'

Everybody is out on the track apart from Raikonen and Magnusson, both of whom look like being safely into Q3 anyway.

1'

Rosberg produces the second quickest time now - edging Vettel, and within four tenths of Hamilton. Q1 could be a fascinating finale...

2'

Massa still 13th incidentally - he'll have one chance to get it right once the wet rubber is back on.

3'

Felipe Massa takes a gamble on intermediate tyres - but comes straight back in, deciding that it's a bad, bad idea...

4'

Hamilton has improved his time by two tenths, as - WOAH! Kevin Magnusson loses it on the last corner, and ended up sliding into the pit lane instead of going round once again. Whoops!

5'

Jenson Button outside the top 10 right now, and is on a quick one... and yes, he goes ninth!

6'

Vettel now comes round to set his first time in Q2 - and he's second, just within half a second of Hamilton.

7'

Great work from Red Bull's Ricciardo! The likeable young Aussie splits the Mercs despite the rain now hammering down like crazy, clocking just over 2:00 to go second quickest.

8'

Lewis Hamilton is in with a 1:59.419 - he's a second faster than Rosberg, the rest of the field a nearly 2 seconds further back!

9'

Hamilton will be first to post a time once again...

10'

Bottas powerslides his way round one of the hairpins - would have been great if he'd meant to do it!

11'

Truly incredible - Fernando Alonso's garage has worked some kind of miracle. How they have replaced a suspension wishbone in the space of a few minutes is beyond me. Perhaps the car is, secretly, made of Lego?

12'

The debris is cleared and we're back under way. Not a single car has set a time yet in Q2.

-

Replays show that Kvyat just drove straight into Alonso after being way too late on the brakes - classic Playstation driving, actually. Tank it into the hairpins and crash your way round!

12'

ALONSO OUT OF Q2! He's got a completely smashed suspension wishbone - absolutely no chance of replacing that in the space of 10 minutes.

13'

We've a red flag now - there's debris all across one of the hairpins from Alonso's car, which looks to have damaged suspension.

14'

Ferrari's decision to try intermediates now looks insane - Raikkonen is coming back in, and Alonso has collided with Kvyat! Madness!

15'

Q2 gets under way, and the rain is falling a little more heavily right now...

-

Strangely, Kimi Raikkonen has the intermediates on - bit of a gamble, could it pay off?

-

Rosberg comes out of the pits to queue up ready for Q2 - and he has full wet tyres on. Just goes to show how much rain is still falling.

09:15

Q2 begins in just a few minutes' time.

-

Marcus Ericsson brings €11 million in sponsorship to Caterham - they'll have to spend most of that in recovery lorry fees from the looks of things so far this season...

-

No big surprises in Q1 then - the two Mercedes are quickest, Vettel next best, and all the big names safely into Q2.

-

Between Ericcson's crash and Vettel running wide on turn nine to go off the track briefly, it just shows how much on the edge these guys are on the edge - and never more so than when it's wet.

-

A replay shows Ericsson's crash - one of his tyres touched a kerb into turn three, and sends him flying down the track totally out of control, and into the track sidewall. He came close to taking out Esteban Gutierrez as well!

-

Just 35 seconds left on the clock - so the session is efffectively over since it's impossible to get from pits to start line in the time left...

1'

BIG SMASH! It's Marcus Erisccon's Caterham that lies in pieces, and the session is instantly red-flagged as he comes to a halt across the middle of the track!

2'

Vettel loses it slightly on his second flying lap - and he'll come back in, nothing more he can do in this session now.

3'

That rain is still spotting - and it's slippery out there, with Max Chilton full-on rallying his way round. Not that it's helping him - he's 21st right now.

4'

Vettel produces the goods - a 1:57.654, that makes him the only man within half a second of the Mercedes, both of whom are back in the pits chilling out and waiting for Q2.

5'

Hulkenberg third quickest now - but still 1.7 behind the two McLarens.

6'

Vettel is back out on track now - he's 10th so should be safely into Q2.

7'

Button blasting up the start-finish straight... and he's 15th! Just about out of that bottom six - and outshone by Magnusson, who makes it into 12th.

8'

Hamilton up to within 0.019 of Rosberg now - still nobody close to the Merc duo. Anyone else got a feeling we'll still be saying that come the end of the season?

9'

The rain is expected to continue throughout the rest of this Q1 session - Magnusson has climbed to 14th, but Button is still down in 19th. He's got it all to do.

10'

Button and Magnusson are back out for flying laps on their intermediates now - but it's just started raining a bit harder, and they'll both have a job to get out of Q1 from the looks of things...

11'

VETTEL INTO THE PITS! The champ has yet another technical problem and he's had to come in. More as we get it on that...

12'

Rosberg improves his time with his second lap - he's quickest right now, Ricciardo the best of the non-Mercedes at 1.7 seconds off the pace.

13'

Kevin Magnusson - McLaren's new star - is hauled back into the pits for new tyres immediately after having a gamble on full wets for his opening effort.

14'

Hamilton and Rosberg both clock laps of 1:57 - three seconds clear of the next batch through, with Alonso's 2:00 the next next best.

15'

Hamilton taking it easy - Rosberg not far behind him...

16'

Lewis Hamilton is the first man round to be setting a flying lap time - let's see how he goes...

17'

Water streaming up from the tyres - still pretty slippery out there...

18'

They're away!

08:47

Cars lining up on the grid - wet tyres on!

08:45

Drivers are now getting suited and booted, the wheels and noses are being bolted back onto the cars, and we're definitely getting under way shortly.

08:42

The track is drying out incredibly quicky - it rains hard here, but it never stays long - and that safety car is now lapping smartly without powersliding every corner like it was earlier.

08:37

IT'S STOPPED RAINING! There's a slight further delay to qualifying, but we're all set to get under way at 08:50 GMT.

08:25

Action now tentatively expected to get under way at 08:45 - let's hope there's no further delays. There will be an updated at 20:40.

08:21

LATEST UPDATED: There's a further 15 minute delay, but the rain has got far lighter now, and the track is draining quickly.

08:20

They've finally decided that it's just about dry enough for the safety car to head out onto the circuit - but the £80,000 Mercedes is sliding about as if it's driving on snow!

08:07

In case you're wondering how come this happens every year in Malaysia, join the club. There's a huge downpour in Malaysia almost every single day at this exact time of afternoon - it's just part of the local weather cycle. But TV insists they start qualifying at a decent time for European viewers, so here we are - the annual farce yet again.

08:05

FURTHER DELAY! The stewards confirm that qualifying is now delayed until at least 08:30 GMT - there will be a further update ten minutes beforehand to see what's what.

08:00

The drivers are still padding around without their gear on, and most of the cars are still in bits - the teams clearly not expecting anything to happen any time soon.

07:57

The rain is torrential at Sepang right now - so much so that the track is under several inches of water, and the session has been delayed by at least 15 minutes. But from the looks of it, it'll be a fair bit more than that...
