The Ferraris of Fernando Alonso - who led the morning session - and Felipe Massa are 14th and 11th respectively.
Red Bull's Mark Webber is seventh, followed by Michael Schumacher of Mercedes.
Nico Rosberg puts Mercedes third ahead of Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and Lotus duo Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
McLaren's Jenson Button leads the way in second practice for the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. The Briton sets a lap-time of a minute 23.399 seconds, 0.164s quicker than world champion Sebastian Vettel in the Red Bull.
The chequered flag is out.
Kobayashi and Hamilton both off at the final chicane, taking advantage of the large run-off area to coast back on to the track.
Webber runs wide late in the lap but the Red Bull is fine.
Massa comes in for soft tyres as we enter the final stages.
Kovalainen visits the gravel at the first chicane in his Caterham.
The McLarens both trying out the race pace on the harder tyres. Almost every driver on track.
Schumacher in eighth at present as he puts his soft tyres through the mill.
HRT: "Narain's car stopped on its 2nd lap. Tough task ahead this afternoon to find out what's the source of the problem exactly is and fix it"
Massa has hard tyres but Alonso is on softs. He is 14th at present.
Little change in the times. Webber in, Vettel back out.
Another car goes off at turn three - Perez in the Sauber. He oversteered but like Webber has rejoined.
Hamilton has a moment at the final chicane and comes in.
The car has been recovered at turn three and the flags have been put away.
The Indian driver was on a first timed lap after completing one circuit.
Karthikeyan is out - and touring! He pulls up the HRT on a fast corner and the yellow flags are out. Disaster for the Spain-based outfit again.
Most drivers are now on those hard-tyre long runs.
Button warned on the radio that there are stones all over the track at that turn four corner. Meanwhile Raikkonen has gone fifth.
Webber into the gravel! He rejoins but he will have stones inside the workings of his Red Bull.
Scratch that - Frenchman Grosjean has come in for softs. And goes fifth fastest ahead of Webber and Schumi.
Raikkonen and Grosjean in the Lotus Renaults are way down the list as they continue to work with hard rubber.
This soft-tyre stint will be replaced by long runs on the hard tyre in a while.
HRT tweet: "Great team work! The guys have done a great job locating and fixing the electrical problem. Narain [Karthikeyan] will be out in 15min max."
Rosberg puts the Mercedes third - he now has soft tyres on his car.
Session leader Button back on track. Vettel is second followed by Hamilton and Webber.
Hulkenberg goes sixth fastest with 1:24.365 while Perez slots in behind him with 1:24.422.
Team Lotus tweet: "Both cars back. Both had our newer front wings for their first FP2 runs."
Button is back in the garage, but Vettel in second remains out.
Button looking hot on this lap on softs: his time of 1:23.399 puts him top.
Both Mercedes have hard tyres on them, unlike most of the field.
Maldonado goes third using softs before Hamilton blasts into second.
Button is lapping following a front wing adjustment while Hamilton is on softer rubber and Alonso on hard tyres.
Kobayashi slots in behind the German with 1:24.214 in the Sauber.
Vettel into P1 with 1:23.563.
In the other STR, Ricciardo, also trying out the soft tyre, goes third fastest.
Massa back in as Vettel emerges. And Vergne puts the Toro Rosso top with 1:24.733 - on the soft tyres this time. He led the way earlier with a hard-tyre lap.
HRT have a problem with Dani Clos's car following that loss of revs in the morning session.
Alonso is back in the garage.
Button has a complaint: "Unbelievable understeer, unbelievable understeer." He stands ninth and has come in.
Most drivers are in the pits now - Felipe Massa puts his Ferrari fourth ahead of Hamilton. And Alonso goes top with 1:24.739.
Alonso goes third, pushing former team-mate Hamilton down a spot.
Alonso bumps the F2012 over a kerb. Vettel and Hamilton are back in the pits.
Hamilton betters his effort with 1:25.061 but stays third. Which team do you expect to dominate this weekend?
Michael Schumacher puts Mercedes top for a spell with Jenson Button now eighth having initially slotted in P6.
Red Bull star man Sebastian Vettel goes top with a 1:25 dead, with Lewis Hamilton of McLaren second. The times flying in - Sergio Perez third in the Sauber.
In the sister STR, Daniel Ricciardo shaves a second off that time despite traffic.
A few cars out now with Vergne the first to set a time - 1:27.146. Two and a half seconds slower than the FP1 benchmark.
The Toro Rosso of Jean-Eric Vergne is first out. Drivers practising their starts in the pitlane before there is heavier traffic.
The hour-and-a-half-long session begins. No one coming out initially.
Track temperature is up at 43 degrees Celsius while air temp is 29 degrees. Hot for this time of year. Humidity is down at 32 per cent though.
