Well, that's that then! Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton - we'll be back again next week to see whether we might get another race as exciting as this as we move towards the end of the season. Thanks for your company this evening.

-
-
-
-

Nico Rosberg is proper sulking up there on the podium.

-

Elton John is going to do the podium interviews. No, really.

-

"That's the greatest moment of my life," says a weepy Lewis Hamilton over the radio.

-

Nico Rosberg takes second, Sebastian Vettel third, with Max Verstappen in fourth.

56/56

LEWIS HAMILTON IS THE WORLD CHAMPION!

-
-

Vettel's in DRS range to Rosberg now - he's closing in.

-
52/56

Fernando Alonso is complaining about his car. "What can I do?" he asks. "Stay out, Fernando, we're still in the points," he's told. "OK. When I am not in the points, then I go in," he replies. Fair enough.

51/56

Ricciardo must have a problem with his car - he's not looking at all competitive now at the back of the pack.

-
50/56

The McLarens exchange places and Jenson Button is moving away from Fernando Alonso.

-

Jenson Button overtakes Sainz and Ricciardo both at once, letting them fight it out and sitting back, then moving through on the pair of them.

-
-

What's Rosberg doing? Is that nerves? He veers wide, Hamilton nips through, and Vettel is breathing down his neck!

48/56

Ah, experience shows. Vettel takes third and stretches away from the youngster.

-
47/56

Verstappen is in third, and he's holding off Vettel well, despite the Ferrari having newer tyres.

46/56

The safety car is about to leave us - ten laps to go!

45/56

They're still trying to pick bits of Kvyat's nose cone out of the wall - safety car is still out.

44/56

And both Hamilton and Vettel take the opportunity to pit - clearly neither think they can make it to the end.

-
-
43/56

Dani Kvyat is off the track, into a wall, but he's OK. "Sorry. Sorry, guys. Sorry," he says. It looks like he ran wide and on to the artificial turf, which then sent him skidding across into the opposite barrier. He nearly took Ricciardo with him.

-
42/56

Well. Look at those McLarens.

41/56

Meanwhile, Hamilton's tyres are wearing down and he hasn't got enough of an advantage to maintain a podium place if he pits again.

40/56

What a move from Fernando Alonso! That car has been a problem all season but he's getting the maximum out of it, pushing past Perez into the first turn.

-

Virtual safety car again while the crane is out to get rid of the stranded Force India.

-
-
36/56

Hulkenberg makes his move - and smacks into Ricciardo. The Force India is out of the race.

35/56

Ricciardo is struggling now - Nico Hulkenberg is looming and ready to pounce.

34/56

There he goes. He takes advantage of the track camber to slide past Ricciardo next.

-
33/56

Vettel is tormenting the Red Bulls already - he's past Kvyat and has Ricciardo in his sights.

-
32/56

Right, the safety car is coming in. Meanwhile, Hamilton is moaning about braking. "I'm afraid I can't comment on line, Lewis," he's told.

31/56

Ericsson's car has been lifted away by a crane, bits of debris have been picked up, there will be racing soon.

-
-
28/56

Marcus Ericsson has come to a halt on Turn 11 - the safety car will be out shortly.

27/56

So Rosberg is in the lead, and Hamilton is second - just as they were 27 laps ago.

-

Poor Kimi Raikkonen has been called in to the garage after that introduction to the advertising hoardings caused some damage.

26/56

Sebastian Vettel is moving through all the traffic and is putting on some vicious speed to take fourth.

24/56

Williams are tight-lipped but report an "issue" with Felipe Massa's car. Double retirement for them this weekend.

-
-

Ricciardo's been wobbling all over the place, and now Rosberg makes his move - he's into the lead.

22/56

Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel records the fastest lap of the race. A little while ago, JENSON BUTTON had the fastest lap so far.

-
-
-
-

Kimi Raikkonen flies into an advertising hoarding, and it seems as though he's stranded in gravel. He revs and revs and revs despite one of the hoardings not wanting to shift, and he gets back on to the track. Brilliant stuff.

20/56

Ricciardo pits, enjoying the luxury of an eight-second advantage.

-
-
18/56

Hamilton underbrakes, Rosberg overtakes him, and the championship leader is called in to the pits!

-
-
-

Sounds like the young'uns from Toro Rosso are irritating Kimi Raikkonen, who's complaining about "this guy" - he mentions no names but he has Verstappen in front and Sainz behind. "If that's legal now, I will do the same to him," he concludes.

-
-

Hamilton leaves Ricciardo plenty of space on the inside, and the Red Bull, despite looking a touch wobbly, capitalises.

16/56

AND THERE'S RICCIARDO! He moves through on Hamilton and takes the lead!

15/56

Ricciardo's pulling alongside Hamilton at the corners. He's making a point here.

-
-
13/56

Rossi is in everyone's way at the back of the field, and Dany Kvyat ends up running wide while he tries to overtake Rosberg. The Mercedes car locks up, and Ricciardo drives beautifully to overtake on the inside.

12/56

Romain Grosjean is called in - that first lap clash has damaged something in his brakes.

-
11/56

Jenson Button sounds muffled but angry over his radio - something to do with his tyres.

10/56

Rosberg is told that no more rain is expected - and he and his team-mate are now free to get on with racing.

-
-

And Rosberg moves back into second - Kvyat tries to hold him off. Daniel Ricciardo doesn't sound like he's smiling when he complains over the radio that Rosberg has got past them both so quickly.

8/56

Virtual safety car disappears, and Rosberg immediately nips past Ricciardo - the Red Bulls were bunching up behind Lewis Hamilton.

-

Valtteri Bottas has just pulled into the garage - out of the race.

7/56

"It's a bit slippery out here. Nico's suffering the same thing," Lewis Hamilton tells his team.

-
5/56

Virtual safety car in force now while they clear up some of the mess on the track.

-
-

Replays are indicating that Hamilton forced Rosberg out wide on the first turn and there was a touch of tyres.

-
4/56

The Red Bulls are lapping quicker than the Mercedes. Intriguing conditions.

3/56

Will Stevens is out already.

-
-

Sainz is cutting a swathe through the field - up to tenth after starting in last.

2/56

Grosjean and Alonso are both reporting punctures, Nasr has lost part of his car courtesy of his team-mate Ericsson at Turn 1.

-

There's a LOT of spray on the track still. Rosberg is trying to close in on Ricciardo but it does look like his front tyres are struggling to grip.

1/56

Rosberg is going backwards! Hamilton gets a good start and forces his team-mate wide, but the Red Bulls are really pushing him from second and third now.

19:03

Here we go!

19:00

"Drying out real quickly," says Lewis Hamilton.

-
-
-
18:45

A man showboats his way very badly through The Star-Spangled Banner.

-
-
18:30

The pit lane is open, and there's a break in the clouds, although it's still rather breezy.

-
18:20

IT'S STOPPED RAINING. Everyone get out there and drive NOW before it starts again.

-
-

In case you missed qualifying earlier, that was brought to a halt by the rain, after yesterday's terrible weather meant it couldn't take place on the usual Saturday. Nico Rosberg begins in pole, Lewis Hamilton is alongside him on the front row. The Red Bulls are on the second row - they're the quartet who struggled least in the poor conditions, but there were multiple skids at Turn 10 and Carlos Sainz can't be enjoying this latter part of the season, experiencing another crash today.

-

And yes, it's raining. I can barely remember a time when I wasn't looking at screens with the pictures obscured by pelting rain.

18:00
