Patrick Reed wins US Masters as Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth miss out

Patrick Reed claimed his first major title at the US Masters by a stroke from Rickie Fowler and two clear of Jordan Spieth, whose final round of 64 saw him miss out by two strokes.

Reed, who took a three-shot lead into the final round at Augusta National, carded a one-under-par 71 that left him one shot clear of Rickie Fowler (67) for his sixth PGA Tour victory on 15 under par.
The final round began with Reed holding a three shot advantage over Rory McIlroy but at the turn it was Spieth, the 2015 Masters champion, leading the chase after going seven-under through his opening 13 holes.
Sitting nine shots off the pace at the start of the day, Spieth was an after thought as spectators filed into Augusta National but was once again in the Masters spotlight when the Green Jacket was up for grabs.
In four Masters appearances, Spieth also has two runner-up finishes and a tie for 11th last year.
If the 24-year-old American had overhauled his US Ryder Cup team mate to win his fourth major, it would have been the biggest comeback in Masters history, but a bogey at the last killed his prospects.
McIlroy, seeking a Masters title to complete a career grand slam, needed to get off to a quick start and the Northern Irishman did just that as he chopped two shots off the deficit in just two holes.
But the Northern Irishman's challenge wilted as a closing two-over 74 saw him finish six behind playing partner Reed.
