The NHL might have a new protocol for determining goaltender interference by the time the playoffs start.

On Wednesday, they called for coaches' challenges to the interference calls to
be reviewed at the league's situation room in Toronto, rather than leaving it
to the on-ice referees to judge.

The referees would still be involved, but a member of the NHL Officiating
Management Team would join in the evaluation.

The rule itself would not change.
While it could go into effect by April 11, it first has to be approved by the
board of governors and the players union.
