Weber has missed Montreal's past 26 games (33 games total) as a result of the
injury. He finishes the season with six goals and 10 assists, his lowest
scoring output since registering 10 points in 28 games as a rookie for the
Nashville Predators in 2005-06.
The Canadiens acquired Weber from Nashville for defenseman P.K. Subban in
2016. The 32-year-old has eight years remaining on his contract and will earn
$6 million in base salary annually starting next season and ending in 2021-22.
--The Canadiens also announced goaltender Carey Price will be sidelined
indefinitely with a concussion. Price was injured in Tuesday's game against
the Philadelphia Flyers when he was hit in the mask with a shot.
Coach Claude Julien said the 2015 Hart Trophy winner will be sidelined until
he is free of symptoms. Price is 15-22-6 with a 2.98 goals-against average and
.904 save percentage this season.
Montreal recalled Charlie Lindgren from Laval Rocket of the American Hockey
League on Wednesday.
--The Florida Panthers honored the shooting victims of Parkland's Marjory
Stoneman Douglas High School during Thursday's game against the Washington
Capitals.
The contest was the Panthers' first home game in Sunrise, Fla., located 10
miles south of Parkland, since 17 people were killed and at least 14 others
wounded in a shooting Feb. 14.
The Panthers conducted a moment of silence prior to the game and wore "MSD"
patches on their sweaters and decal stickers on their helmets. Florida began
wearing the patches and decals last Saturday and will continue to don them
through the remainder of the season.
--The Boston Bruins traded 23-year-old center Frank Vatrano to the Panthers in
exchange for a 2018 third-round draft pick.
Appearing in 25 games for the Bruins this season, Vatrano has two goals and a
plus/minus rating of minus-3. He totaled a career-high 10 goals and eight
assists in 44 games with Boston last season.
Over 108 career NHL games, all with Boston, Vatrano has scored 20 goals and
tallied 11 assists for 31 points.
--Instead of shopping defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson ahead of Monday's trade
deadline, the Arizona Coyotes are hoping to sign the 26-year-old to an
extension when they are permitted to starting July 1.
"I'm neither listening nor talking about Oliver Ekman-Larsson other than to
his agent to try and get extension done, or at least have discussions to see
where he's at," Coyotes general manager John Chayka said Wednesday.
Ekman-Larsson is set to become an unrestricted free agent after next season.
The 2009 first-round pick (No. 6 overall) is in the midst of a tumultuous
campaign that has him at eight goals and 21 assists, with a plus/minus of
minus-36. He established a career high in points in 2015-16 when he scored 21
goals and tallied 34 assists.
