NHL notebook: Iginla to announce retirement

Jarome Iginla plans to announce his retirement from the NHL next week.

Iginla has scheduled a news conference in Calgary, where he played parts of 16
seasons. In all, he played 20 seasons in the NHL, registering 625 goals, 675
assists, 1,300 points and 1,040 penalty minutes in 1,554 games.
"It's been a fun adventure for my family and I," Iginla told the Flames'
website in an interview published Wednesday. "Some great cities, great people.
To be back in Alberta, though, will feel like home."
Iginla, 41, did not play in the NHL last season after appearing in 19 games
with the Los Angeles Kings in 2017.
--Minnesota Wild forward Jason Zucker agreed to a five-year, $27.5 million
deal, the team announced.
Zucker, a restricted free agent, will have a $5 million salary this season,
according to the team. The following four seasons break down this way: $6.25
million in 2019-20, $4.8 million in 2020-21, $6.25 million in 2021-22 and $5.2
million in 2022-23.
The 26-year-old set career highs with 33 goals and 64 points last season. His
31 assists also represented a career best.
--The Vancouver Canucks signed forward Jake Virtanen to a two-year contract,
the team announced.
The Canucks said the deal is worth an average of $1.25 million per season.
Virtanen, 21, was a restricted free agent.
Virtanen scored 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 75 games last season. He
led the team's forwards with 155 hits.
--The Nashville Predators are bringing back defenseman Dan Hamhuis on a
two-year, $2.5 million contract.
Hamhuis, who played his first six NHL seasons with the Predators, had three
goals and 24 points in 80 games with the Dallas Stars last season.
The 35-year-old was a first-round pick by Nashville in the 2001 NHL Draft.
Hamhuis has 343 points (59 goals, 284 assists) in 14 NHL seasons with the
Stars, Vancouver Canucks and Predators.
--The Dallas Stars inked restricted free agent forward Mattias Janmark to a
one-year, $2.3 million deal.
Janmark had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Aug. 3.
The 25-year-old Swede had career highs in goals (19), assists (15), points
(34) and games played (81) with the Stars last season. Janmark missed the
2016-17 campaign due to a knee injury.
