Gold rush continues for Eggert and Benecken

Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken continue to set the gold standard on the doubles circuit after retaining their world title in Winterberg.
The German pair, who had also won doubles sprint gold on Friday at this weekend's World Championships, rose to the occasion once again in their home country a day later to top the podium down the longer track.
Eggert and Benecken held their nerve to keep hold of the the doubles title they won in Innsbruck in 2017, topping the tree ahead of countrymen Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt by just 0.078 seconds.
Runs of 43.613 and 43.643 saw them rack up and overall time of 1:27.256, with fellow Germans Wendl and Arlt clocking in with 1:27.334.
Austria's Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller (1:27.397) completed the rostrum as Eggert, 30, and Benecken, 25, both celebrated a fifth career world title.
