Thomas Steu ended the recent German domination in the Luge World Cup doubles as he slid to his third win of the season in Altenberg.
Austrian Steu and partner Lorenz Koller won the opening two events of the campaign in Innsbruck but the previous six have been won by German pairs – five of those by the duo of Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken.
In Altenberg, Steu posted the fastest first run by clocking 41.508seconds and were second quickest on the following run, to triumph by 0.043s with a total time of 1:23.463.
Eggert had to settle for silver, while Latvians Andris Sics and Juris Sics earned a second consecutive bronze medal after coming in 0.386s behind.
The result means the Austrians jump up to second in the overall standings on 652 points, as Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt drop to third after a horrendous first run saw them finish 19th on the day.
Eggert's lead is still substantial however – he's top of the pile on 810 points with only three races to go.
