Nick Woodbridge set for World Cup return after two-year absence

World champion Samantha Murray – who already has World Cup gold to her name this season – will return to the fold for the women's team.

She will go alongside Kate French and Freyja Prentice – both of whom have been on the podium this season with bronze medals.

For Woodbridge, whose last World Cup was in April 2013, the event is a long-awaited return after struggling with hip problems.

He made his first competitive appearance of 2015 in Budapest in March and will be joined in the men's squad by Tom Toolis, Joe Choong and Joe Evans. And Pentathlon GB performance director Jan Bartu believes the team will face their sternest challenge of the season when they travel to Italy.

"I expect that this World Cup will be the best attended of the season up to this point," he said. "There will be plenty of teams from Asia taking part, which wasn’t the case in Cairo.

"I would not like to predict anything in terms of performance but I would like to see all of our team feature in the final stages.

"Nick Woodbridge is returning to the World Cup stage and it will be good to see what he is capable of doing at this stage of his comeback.

"Samantha, Kate and Freyja have all done really well this season and there will be expectation on their side but every single competition is different."
