Eight straight top 10 finishes dating back to a seventh-place result at MotoGP’s Australian Grand Prix last October is just the start for Alma Pramac Racing’s Jack Miller. The 23-year-old Queenslander is targeting a top 5 result for this Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix and feels confident his days of inconsistency are a thing of the past.
“It’s been nice to be in the top 10 the last eight races,” said Miller at a pre-race presser on Wednesday. “Of course we want more. I was known in the past as one of the most inconsistent riders, so it’s nice to have this consistency. It’s something I’ve been working really hard on and I’m very happy.”
Miller, who made the move to Alma Pramac’s No.43 Ducati after spending the past two seasons on Honda for Marc VDS Racing where he won the Dutch TT in 2016, earned a pole position and a fourth-place result at Argentina in April followed by a sixth in Spain and another fourth on the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans, Pays de la Loire, France two weeks ago.
“I am really excited for the Mugello Grand Prix after a great French Grand Prix and Spanish Grand Prix,” admitted Miller. “It’s also nice to come here with some good shape and form. I feel we are step by step coming closer to the front.
“We’ve seen in the past that the GP17 worked really well at the track,” he explained further referring to the Ducati Desmosedici GP17’s performance history on the Italian Grand Prix’s Mugello Circuit. “I look forward to trying to do my best job and bring the bike home again in the top 5.”
With 13 of the 19 MotoGP races remaining on the 2018 calendar, Miller is currently sixth on points for the season with 49. The Townsville native trails Italian teammate Danilo Petrucci with 54, while Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi (ITA) has 56, Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Johann Zarco, 58, (FRA), Movistar Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales (ESP), 59, and Repsol Honda’s Marc Márquez (ESP), who currently leads the series after three straight wins, with 95.
