Eric Frenzel is in pole position to claim this season's Nordic combined crystal globe after victory in the penultimate event of the campaign in Schonach, Germany.
German Frenzel sat seventh after the ski-jump but came home first with the tenth-fastest time to finish top of the pile in 28:14.0 minutes.
Second place when to Austrian Wilhelm Denifl 3.4 seconds further back, while German Johannes Rydzek was third 7.1 behind his victorious team-mate.
The victory means that with one event left Frenzel leads the World Cup standings on 1634 points, with Rydzek 54 behind in second.
That means that even if Rydzek claims a win in the finale, Frenzel would have to finish lower than fourth not claim a fifth World Cup title.
The battle for third is also going down to the wire with German Fabian Riessle on 1053 points having finished 27th in Schonach, and Akito Watabe of Japan on 1026 as he came home fourth.
