Winter Olympics 2018: Charlotte Kalla wins first PyeongChang gold in women's skiathlon
Sweden’s Charlotte Kalla claimed the first gold medal of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics with victory in the women’s skiathlon.
Kalla, who already has two gold medals to her name from previous Games, broke away from reigning champion Marit Bjorgen of Norway to upgrade from the silver medal she won in Sochi four years ago.
The 30-year-old two-time world champion crossed the finish line in a time of 40 minutes and 44 seconds with Bjorgen finishing seven seconds later.
Finland’s Krista Parmakowski won her second Olympic medal with a third place bronze.
