Helen Glover’s a step closer to becoming the first British female rower to go to an Olympics after having children by winning gold at the European Championships.
In her comeback event, the double Olympic champion partnered Polly Swann to claim victory in the women’s pair in Varese, Italy.
Glover won gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016 with Heather Stanning, who has since retired, and decided during lockdown to make a full-time return to the sport.

The British team beat Romania and Spain to earn victory, with Glover continuing her unbeaten run in the event since 2012.
Rio silver-medallist Swann’s achievement is also impressive, given that she is a qualified junior doctor who has been working for the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.
"I think the third quarter felt quite comfortable, it was the last quarter where I thought ‘okay, they’re all coming back at us," Glover told BBC Sport.
"But I think taking the race bit by bit, the middle 1000m was the bit we wanted to be really strong on today and I actually felt the middle of the race, we felt quite in control, and maybe that left us missing a gear at the end.
"We’re just really happy with the result overall."
Glover admits she was nervous before the race and had some irrational thoughts about whether she could complete it.
"The next final, all feelings will be erased from this one", she said.
I was thinking, am I going to make it down the track and it’s silly really because I do it in training everyday but just something about racing makes those doubts come to the surface.
"Now I’ve squashed those, I can move forward on to being the athlete I am and the athlete that I want to be as well.
"I said to my mum, if you can video the kids watching that would be great but I don’t know if they’ve managed that bit of technology with three little ones."
