Earlier in the weekend, Amor's charges negotiated their pool with wins over Uganda, Argentina and Scotland to set up a quarter-final clash with New Zealand.
However, they conceded a late try after Tom Mitchell was given a yellow card with a minute remaining.
In their fifth-place play-off, Fiji also scored a try in added time to secure a 19-12 win, after Tom Bowen and Dan Norton tries had hauled England back from a 12-0 half-time deficit.
But despite the defeats, Amor did praise the effort of his players in another entertaining round of sevens fixtures in South Africa.
"It's disappointing to lose the last play in both games today but once again the effort has been tremendous from the players," said Amor.
"We've just made too many errors and our decision making hasn't been good enough at critical moments.
"We were certainly very rusty coming into these tournaments and you can see that in our performances, so the priority will be trying to work on reducing the number of errors we've made which has been high over the past two weekends.
"Most importantly, it's about maintaining that attitude to go out there and keep working hard for each other."
