Sale said that Leota, who joined the Sharks in 2011, had signed for an additional two years.
The 32-year-old Samoa international has made more than 100 appearances for Sale, and he is an integral part of their Premiership play-off push this season.
Leota said: " I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club, and my family are settled in the north west.
