Gloucester 20-38 Leicester: Handre Pollard instrumental as visitors edge Gallagher Premiership basement battle

It was, in the end, what looked like a comfortable afternoon's work for Leicester at Gloucester, but the 18-point gap on the scoreline was somewhat deceptive as both sides went hammer and tong in their Gallagher Premiership basement battle. Ollie Hassell-Collins was the two-try hero for the visitors but Handre Pollard was the conductor, ticking things over from the tee to take his team to victory.

Ollie Hassell-Collins scored two tries as the Leicester Tigers won at Gloucester's Kingsholm Stadium to take the Slater Cup.
The winger opened the scoring moments before the break, set up by a long pass from Freddie Steward, leaving them eight points in front going into the second half.
Gloucester got back in the game when a maul from a lineout culminated in George McGuigan diving over, but soon afterwards Julian Montoya scored in a similar manner at the other end.
Hassell-Collins put the game beyond doubt with another try assisted by Steward, despite Jamal Ford-Robinson powering over for the Cherry and Whites in the closing stages.
And in the very final seconds, Solomone Kata crossed to further extend Leicester’s lead and get them their try-scoring bonus point.
The win is Leicester's second consecutive in the Premiership after they lost four of their first five matches.

Talking Point

Emotional off-field scenes trump on-field action - Though this game draws a sell-out and as enthusiastic a crowd as you will see at Premiership Rugby, the action on the field will always be secondary when the Slater Cup is contested. Following in the footsteps of cross-code star Rob Burrow, Ed Slater's battle with MND has and will continue to engage and inspire the rugby union community and beyond. The inclusion of his children relishing the role of awarding the cup is both heart-warming and emotional in equal measure. It took a while to get going but the second half ended up being the type of encounter Slater would have loved to have been a part of.

Player of the Match

Freddie Steward (Leicester Tigers) - Handre Pollard was also a key figure in the match for the Tigers but the full-back was a class act with ball in hand, always making the right decision and playing a pivotal role in Hassell-Collins' two tries. He was also a difficult man to get hands on, beating five opponents over the 80 minutes.
