Tatiana Ivanova, Semen Pavlichenko, Vladislav Yuzhakov and Yuri Prokhorov broke Germany's near two-decade stranglehold on the luge's team world title as Russia reigned supreme.
A German sled had won every World Championship team event since 2000, with Ivanova twice piloting Russia to second-placed finishes - in both 2012 and 2015 - but in Sunday's relay in Winterberg, the tables were finally turned.
The Russians came home in 2:24.116 to top the podium, 0.508 seconds ahead of the Austrian sled of Hannah Prock, Reinhard Egger, Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller (2:24.624).
And the home crowd were left disappointed as Germany's all-start crew of Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch, Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken were forced to settle for bronze (2:24.647).
