Overall World Cup leader Marcel Hirscher completed an immense weekend in Kranjska Gora as he cruised to slalom victory ahead of Norway’s Henrik Kristoffersen.

The 27-year-old Austrian was on another planet all weekend, and after a sensational first run gave him an advantage of three-quarters of a second, consolidated his position in the second.
France’s Julien Lizeroux, second after the first run, straddled the very first gate on the second to take what little pressure remained off Hirscher’s shoulders.

Kristoffersen put down the second-fastest final run to jump from fourth place onto the second step of the podium, 0.81 seconds off Hirscher’s total, while Italy’s Stefano Gross stayed in third place as a mistake from Fritz Dopfer of Germany saw him drop to fourth.
That result meant Kristoffersen claimed the slalom World Cup crown having won at Val d'Isere, Madonna di Campiglio, Adelboden, Wengen, Kitzbühel and Schladming this winter, and he is the first Norwegian skier to win a crystal globe in the slalom since Kjetil Andre Aamodt 16 years ago.

But the weekend belonged to Hirscher, whose lead at the top of the overall World Cup standings is 353 points with only six events remaining.
He also dominated the giant slalom on Saturday, ending the wonderful run of France’s Alexis Pinturault (who had four straight victories) in the specialty.
