World number one Trump put together runs of 75, 122, 50, 75, 108, 68 and 60 to win his fifth ranking title of the season.
Bingtao was in good early form with breaks of 70 and then 55 in the first two frames, leaving the score at 1-1.
However, Trump then took four consecutive frames with some heavy scoring - breaks of 75, the game's first century of 122, 50 and 75.
The match looked poised to turn into a procession but Bingtao made a 95 to win the last frame of the session 101-27, with the match to restart later on Sunday evening.
The first-ranked Trump looks a heavy favourite with an early finish to the second session looking likely.
In the second session, Bingtao took two consecutive frames to leave the score at 6-4, and the Chinese sixth seed appeared to be in the ascendancy.
Trump hit back with a century break of 108, and then hit an unanswered 68 to leave the game at 8-4 in the mid-session interval.
Trump made it three in a row with a scrappy 88-36, leaving him a single frame from victory. He gave Bingtao a brief chance in the final frame but ultimately cruised to his 10th frame and victory - a record-equalling fifth ranking event in a season.
